do you have SATA on your motherboard? it's the little green things near the IDE ports, where you plug in the cable from your drives..

are you sure that will work with my desktop? Cause my first and oldest desktop has about 37 gigs all together and 8 left. Thats really little and i just got a new gfx card so i can play good games like bf2 and such but i dont have enough space. BTW is there anyway to increase my ghz? Thanks
Dont get Maxtor, they are bad, just so you know.. I got experiance with them and WD, the older WD model is ebtter than the maxtor
CoolGuy, in the early days, IDE 100 and 133 did make a difference, buit these days, both are supported. Diablo, I feel your pain, but the newer Maxtors aren't that bad, but I do agree, the WD's are excellent all around..
the newer maxtors aren't horrible, infact of all my harddrive failures... all have been with WD, unless you count the one where the computer physically fell a few feet but I feal that to be more my fault than maxtors... and even then the drive worked after a reformat, and I was able to retreive all my old data off it... Harddrive wise anything eIDE should work, it's been a standard for atleast 10 years if I'm not mistaken as for increasing the clock speed(Hz) of your computer, if you bought it from dell(which you dide) don't count on it, if you bought it from a better company they would have given you a REAL motherboard capable of overclocking, overclocking be a processwhere you set your processor above it's recomended specifications, for example my opteron is specified for operation at 1.8GHz, yet I was easily able to up it to 2.6-2.8GHz on stock voltage(albiet I needed mroe voltage to my LDT but that's a seperate issue) that's a 46%increase in clock speed, and a significant performance boost(it went from being compareable to a 3.0-3.2GHz Pentium Extreme edition to being compareable to a 4.3-5.0GHz PXE) again though you bought a Dell so you are more or less screwed. Remember Dell makes more money off of each computer sale than any other major company for a reason(even after you count in the cost of all their advertising) EDIT: I assume you have the dimmension 2400 and not the poweredge 2400, correct? EDIT2: read this review on the dimmension 2400 http://www.pcstats.com/articleview.cfm?articleID=1610 your processors problem isn't clock speed, it's FSB, l2 cache, and core architecture, all fo which can't be fixed. you also need a ----load more ram if you chose the 128mb model, the computer doesn't work with modern graphics cards, and when I say modern I mean outdated AGP cards, and the PSU is utter ----. your system acheived 64 points in 3dmark 03... typically scores are in the tens of thousands for a mid end(800-1200) custom built system today
i have a 512mb ram. Yes its a dimension 2400 sadly. its pretty old a few years now. Are you sure i cant overclock it just a bit to at least 2.8 or 3.0 while it is 2.39 xmasterx- thats good so i guess ill be buying that diablo- thanks for teh tip
