Hey guys. Well my friend had this computer wiht Windows 98 on it. And for some reason since this morning he cant go to his desktop. The only way he can go is by Safe Mode. So i read up on how but nothing works.

When he goes in Add/remove programs there isnt a Uninstall Windows 98, and the cd rom isnt detected with the windows 98 cd in it.

Does anyone have an idea or clue whats going on and how to repair it ?

try burning an iso for windows 200 or xp onto a disc.
put disc in driveturn the computer on. press escape until you enter bios settings. move the arrow key to boot from disc before hard drive. press enter. u should now be in 2000 or xp, try and fix the problem from there

    hope it helps

windows 2000 isn't that much resource hungry than 98, XP is.

you try to check if his system has an automated recovery partition?
I'll see about looking into this later today im too tired to think right now... heh

YOu need a startup disk with CD-ROm Support to run Wndows 98 CD - Booting the floppy disk first

That was the weird thing - I use it to format when I was using win98 and ME :D

Well your question i find vague so I dont know what you are trying to do - Formatting or re-installing?

    Ok

give me like 5mins to type it up :D

    1. Get a floppy disk
    2. Put it in - Then go to My computer > Right click floppy > FOrmat > startup disk i believe [USING WINDOWS 98]

Dont use WinXP startup discs if u have any - It wont work because they have different features

    3. Once done - Restart - If you havent got floppy as first boot then Press DEL or bring about your setup ' Boot Floppy disc ' first

    4. Save and exit
    5. It should start booting the floppy disk and you should see random stuff coming
    6. Theres a list of options somwhere that lets you have CDROM support - If that comes up then Press enter

BARE IN MIND THE DRIVE YOU WANA install it on

    7. If you want to format then type [GOing to use C DRive] Format C:\ - I think it was that

If you dont then go to your CD Drive [Going to choose D:\ drive - Replace letter with your CD Drive]

Type D:\ to go to the drive - Then type DIR to give the directory - Its trial and error if D is not correct then type E:\ then DIR until you find the Win98 Disc

YOu should see Setup.exe somewhere - Once found it type Setup.exe

And it should run it ...

Some parts might contain some errors :) But any questions - Post em B)
