mac's are not immune to VIRUSES. so dont even think they are. NO COMPUTER, no matter how godly, or of it uses linux or mac, or anything, is immune at all. The reason why there is a small amount of viruses, and /or they cannot transfer to mac, is because of how the processor process in binary. The reason why are a small amount of viruses is because hardly anyone uses macs. over 90% of the world uses a windows os based system, and it is becomming larger and larger, despite the many attempts by mac and mac users to gain support.
i said PC because i work with a PC that was fairly priced (under $1000) and has many good gaming, audio/video, and other features that you just wont find on a mac. Macs are good but mostly for media. games are also harder to find for macs but with a mac you get video editing and good media programs that come standard. you also dont get any windows components though so thats a bummer. less crashing though i believe.
You said you were looking at a Macbook? Well, from what I've seen, the Macbooks and Macbook pro's both have some relativly severe cooling issues, so expect it to run very hot, even to the point where you cant leave it on your lap or risk burning yourself. One report is a man had to put his macbook under his air conditioner for 5 minutes becuase the system got so hot it wouldnt boot. Thats a big thing thats keeping me from the new macs.
very true. there was a virus a little back that was triggered toward macs, but it was quickly dissolved. Linux/Unix is not prone to viruses, only because all the viruses are made for Windows, and an exe file would not work in Linux...
That's actually all in how you look at it. Sure, somebody COULD try to code a virus for macs, but no program is allowed to touch your system files without asking you for your password, so it wouldn't get very far. Trust me. It's been tried. It was tried again recently with the introduction of an operating system that runs on Intel processing architecture, and the whole Mac community panicked because for a second, the virus actually seemed to work. Then somebody realized that it has to ask for a password, so as long as you know what you're doing, you won't infect yourself with it. Yes, and ----roaches far outpopulate humans, but numbers alone to not denote a higher life form.
WK, are you talking about MAC hardware, or software? It's hardware is overly expensive, so why not get a PC and use Boot Camp? Alot Cheaper, plus you have a back route to Windows... roaches may overpopulate humans 5 to 1, but now it has become a big morph of the two...
I voted PC, reason for this is just because there are more applications for it. Of course you can also install MacOS on a PC. I even heard of someone who has both Windows and MacOs on his PC and he switches back and forth for whatever work he does. People sometimes say Mac is safer and all, but that is only because virus writers are out there trying to hit a large group of people. If everyone bought Mac, then PC would be safer...
I don't think I understand what you're suggesting here-- a PC would have no need to run BootCamp. It was written by Apple so users could install Windows onto Intel-based Macs. Many people tend to make this sound like an extremely small accomplishment. Like you can just go out and pick up Mac OS 10.4, Tiger, and throw it in your PC box, and install it. But this isn't the case. Running Tiger on a PC requires a VERY SPECIFIC set of hardware, still has software problems (DVD player gets hung up, for example), and can cause heating issues because the x86 version of Tiger sometimes has a hard time talking to PC's cooling fans. So, though you CAN, it's not a conventional solution. The best way to take advantage of the Mac OS is to actually go out and buy a Mac. Because then if you decide you want to run Windows, you've got no problem.
You need BootCamp to run OSX on Pc's.. just drop it, WK, ok? a majority of people says PC, deal with it...
I know this topic is old but.. I did get the macbook and no you CANT bootcamp osx on a windows bootcamp is for macs to have windows the only way to have osx on a pc is illegally, from what I've heard. Anyways an update: The macbook that i have is probably the best computer i have ever used, No I don't have cooling issues, it might not to be very compatible but really all the software you need comes with a mac(iLife), and there is lots of programs for a mac, on macupdate.com. And there is games for mac that are cool. Halo 2, COD 3, WOW, etc. I would name more but im not much of a computer gamer. Any questions that you guys want anwsered about macbook's or maybe the operating system ask me here. the only real problem i had is discoleration on it, its getting a little gray on the inside(I got the white one) but thats not a bigdeal to me I can always get that fixed.
