MMA is the best, atleast over all for fighting. But just the most potent martial art, would have to be Kung Fu. A person who spends 10 years doing Kung Fu, would be able to do stuff overall better, than someone who spends 10 years doing a different type of Martial Art. Only thing Kung Fu would have trouble against, is Jujitsu, since Kung Fu is standing up, and Jujitsu focuses on grappling.
He's playin stupid. His "interest" is martial arts in his profile. I think mixed martial arts focuses too little on every one of the martial arts, and I noticed it's most effective while grappling aka UFC.
Mixed martial arts is my personal vote. While Id normally choose Tae Kwon Do since thats my usual style, I found that mixing what I knew with Brazilian Ju Jitsu and such has made it better all-around. Another example would be the Gracie vs. Hughes fight. Even though an ex-"300 to 0" winning champ practicly invented a very touch style, he still lost to a mixed-style fighter.
Its to categorize fighting styles in one, you can't ask someone do you do martial arts though -_- its like asking me, Am I Japanese , Chinese or Asian -_- just doesn't fit like that. Anyways I do: Judo - Jujitsu (did in one class, Jujitsu on weds.) Pakmei - Leopard - Tiger - Pheonix Kenpo - also did Kung Fu here, Learned Rooster , Dragon , Leopard , Tiger , Crane , Shadow hits - ghost hits , lots more =P Tai Chi Quan and Tai Chi Yang did more also, just comp sucks and lagging gotta restart =P
