    Well, this is my laptop.

    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,1759,1571473,00.asp

It's a bit pricy but the line's also discontinued now.

It's larger than most laptops, because it's got a 17" widescreen monitor, but hell...a screen that size makes it worth it. I really love my laptop, I never use my desktop anymore. It's got a 3GHz processor, and considering it's about a year and a half old it's pretty good. My brother has a Toshiba as well (I'm not sure what kind his is, mine's geared more towards graphics and video editing and his towards gaming, so they're quite different). They're good machines and neither of us have had a single problem with them yet.

P4s make horible laptop processors... the 2GHz Pentium Ms outperform them, Intel's claiming a 40% performance gain from swtichting from the pentium 4 to the core2 duo(which runs from between 1.8GHz-2.6GHz) and I beleive them

Yeah, this is the laptop that I want to get. I really don't see whats so bad about Dells. They run fine, at least the desktops do. Yeah, this computer has a Core Duo, and for all that other stuff its only $1450.(Tax Included) Isn't that a pretty good deal?

    About 3 hours on average.

Depends on the battery mode and what I'm doing.

I almost never run it on battery though.

I've got a Dell Inspiron ATM to fix it for someone and it's got a P4 3 Ghz. The battery life under load is between 1.5-2 hours, not bad battery life, but then again it does weigh about 4 kg.

Does anyone have a suggestion on a graphics card, if you are going to play games like counter-strike source, and age of empires 3?

p4s still underperform PMs though... and cost more(for the mobility versions)

as for a GFX card... I'd expect either a radeon x700 or an x1600... both should eb good enough for moderate gaming... don't go lower(say x1400 etc)
