Heh. I argued about a week ago or so with someone on IRC that's job is something with media images/arts/whatever. Point is, he complained that smaller images are better because it takes more skill to experess the same in a smaller space. His main argument for this was "I was tought this! It is right!" Which is sad, seeing how he usually is smart with good arguments. My argument was, if you can do that good with smaller space, you'd do even greater with bigger space. So anyone that said smaller is harder, if you can do smaller, then bigger ends up being better. And the reason I do signatures? I want to be able to make some money from photoshop, so I improve with sigs, then I'm soon going to start making things for money. I actually have a chance to make a CD cover for a band, if they like it I get paid, and I'll ask them to recommend me to others/tell me if anyone else needs something. I made a flyer for a local concert, and although it paid only 5 dollars (haven't got it yet either), it's a good start.
I totallly agree with you. People just use some brush they didn't even make themselve, stick some picture. Stupid people.
I'm not really good with photoshop right now, but I don't think size matters if you want to express something. Maybe it depends on what message your trying to reveal to them. I make things in photoshop for a hobby. I might plan to get into computer animation though.
damn you people take it so seriously.. I only do sigs on my own spare time for fun , and i have learned many things and improved at it.. Not only have i improved at photoshop, but i have also improved at drawing beacuse of sig making. But we all have to start from somewhere right? start from smaller things to bigger things.. We'll all get there eventually. and some of you guys are hypocrits , if you dont see any skill in making sigs , stop posting in the damn forums and making sigs.if u are against it so much.. and im talking to you too incineration..
we all use something we didnt make ourselfs! why do ppl make brushes and upload them to DA or any other website? could it be because they want other ppl to use them in their gfx? <_< lock this topic ffs , its stupid!
omg, exactly if you think making them is worthless.. dont make em. I make mine with care and for a purpose, usually a tribute. Check my current, tribute the best political frontman ive ever seen. Its all in good fun
No matter what you do, in the end, its always the same.... on the beggining, you have to work, on the middle, your work will pay off, at the end, you will die, no matter what you do.... signature isnt about expressing your talent, its about fun, its about blennding, doing a good job, and gambling, contest, and being the BEST.... do you know, everything is pointless? work is pointless, school is pointless, job is pointless, games and fun are pointless, LIFE is pointless...... everything is pointless.... including you..
I would love to move on and do large pictures, but I think that doing sigs is a great place to start...and i feel that my sigs are pitful compared to many of the peoples here, so ive got a lot more to learn. Once i feel i have mastered sigs ill move on. but who knows? i'll probably still make the signatures because i can
signatures are anything but a waste of talent! You must be an idiot to see that? Signatures are the foundation, the base. Think of graphics designs like a house, you dont start at the top do you? you work on the foundations first, then work youre way up! I do signatures for now, but im working on a style so i can figure out what im going to do when i start making backgrounds and the like! REALY??? You do designing in graphics dont you?? have you at least once used custom brushes or renders, eh? If you want to make templates, make templates If you want to make signatures, make signatures If you want to make backgrounds, makes backgrounds NOBODY really cares if "it came to youre attention that signatures are a waste of time" as you doubtlessly declared in youre first sentence. If you find they are a waste of time, dont make em then!
^Exactly. A sig is something you do on the side, as a little fun project. And what G70 said before is actually quite right. It's a lot harder to convey your message in 400x100px than in 1600x1200px. That said, I do agree with you, Korpus, on the fact that people waste their [considerable] talent on signatures. If you can do so well in such a restricted space, imagine what you could do in a BIG space... Just my two cents. B)
