I have an Intel Pentium 4 2.8 GHz Northwood Processor on a Dell Dimension 4600. In the BIOS of the computer, the processor is locked ... meaning I can't overclock it. Is there any way to unlock it so I can even give it just a slight overclock ... or am I just screwed and can't change it. Would be nice if the program or method is free as well. My waranty has been up for like a year too ... so I don't care if it voids it. Must be possible ... heres a quote from Dell support:
Well, dude, you'r defenatly not the only one who's motherboard is locked, your CPU is prolly not locked, its just your motherboard's bios, so you gotta unlock it. The easiest way is just to buy a new mobo, which I'm probably going to do also. However, I did some research, and I found a sort of bios hack, but I dont understand it and nobody wanted to explain me so... <_< http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-...S-Patcher.shtml I've got AWARD BIOS 6.0PG, what about you?
No ... my BIOS isn't locked ... I can get into it. The part where you adjust the CPU and FSB speed is the part that is locked within the BIOS.
That is what I meant with ''a locked bios''. Almost everyone is able to acces their bios, but not their frequency/voltage controls. Hope you find something Butch...
He cant just buy a new mobo, becuase Dell Systems use propriety parts. In other words, a diff Mobo wouldnt fit in his computer. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure thats the case...
Intel dooesn't OC much anyways... and if you do, you'd need better cooling than the stock hs/f... water cooling at best..
I dont think so, I've seen so many ppl who got the same CPU as mine running at 4.2 stable, air... @ViolentJ, reboot your PC, hit del and check if there is a setting in that menu (the bios) which is called, voltage/frequency controls, or something with your CPU...
