Hmmm... got another pair of speakers or a pair of phones to connect to the back to test them out instead of the same speakers?
Go out and buy an Audigy or another sound card for cheaper and just use that. It is better anyways. It really isn't worth fooling around with the gay ass onboard ---- sometimes.
