By now everyone should have heard about George W Bush, Jr. and his dim-witted, scabrous diatribes. In case you haven't heard or have even forgotten, allow me to refresh your memory. Wait! Before you dismiss me as mingy, hear me out. And for those pushy warmongers who want to hide behind the argument that his factotums are not illiberal thought police, but rather, disgusting, gin-swilling pip-squeaks, my question is simply this: What's the difference? He will hate me for saying this, but some people don't seem to mind that he likes to make human life negligible and cheap. What a scummy, impudent world we live in! What Bush fails to mention in his strictures is actually quite telling. For example, did you know that Bush wants to dilute the nation's sense of common purpose and shared sacrifice? Or that this is kind of a touchy subject to some people?

Bush's policies are based on a technique I'm sure you've heard of. It's called "lying". Who is Bush to say that his shenanigans are our final line of defense against tyrrany?

Yes, my only goal in writing this letter and others concerning George W Bush is to comment on a phenomenon that has and will continue to infringe upon our most important constitutional rights, but here is the point that is worth considering: He wants to prevent the real problems from being solved. What's wrong with that? What's wrong is Bush's gossamer grasp of reality. Quite frankly, he likes to quote all of the saccharine, sticky moralisms about "human rights" and the evils of antipluralism. But as soon as we stop paying attention, Bush invariably instructs his bedfellows to turn me, a typically mild-mannered person, into a prolix vat of antagonism. Then, when someone notices, the pattern repeats from the beginning. Though this game may seem perverse beyond belief to any sane individual, it makes perfect sense in light of Bush's imperious threats.

If I may be permitted to make an observation, I like to speak of Bush as "dictatorial". That's a reasonable term to use, I insist, but let's now try to understand it a little better. For starters, I once had a nightmare in which he was free to weaken family ties. When I awoke, I realized that this nightmare was frighteningly close to reality. For instance, it is the case both in my nightmare and in reality that Bush's incoherent dream is starting to come true. Liberties are being killed by attrition. Jacobinism is being installed by accretion. The only way that we can reverse these negativism-prone trends is to denounce those who claim that Bush commands an army of robots that live in the hollow center of the earth and produce earthquakes whenever they feel like shaking things up a bit on the surface. To be precise, he intends to create a new social class. Subversive blusterers, mephitic scatterbrains, and snooty malcontents will be given aristocratic status. The rest of us will be forced into serving as their rank-and-file followers. It's likely that in a matter of days Bush will mollycoddle the most politically incorrect twits I've ever seen if we don't stop him now. The reason is simple: Today, we might have let him promote the total destruction of individuality in favor of an all-powerful group. Tomorrow, we won't. Instead, we will encourage individuals to come out of their cocoons and flourish. His dissertations bespeak a spiritual crassness, a materialistic and short-sighted stupidity that will create a regime of rancorous, lazy prætorianism in a lustrum or two. Am I being unduly harsh for writing that? I think not. When the religious leaders in Jesus's time were wrong, Jesus denounced them in extremely harsh terms. So why shouldn't I, too, use extremely harsh terms to indicate that Bush's slaves assume that because they look a certain way or come from a certain background, they have a right to waste taxpayers' money?

Don't kid yourself: When I observe Bush's underlings' behavior, I can't help but recall the proverbial expression, "monkey see, monkey do". That's because, like him, they all want to send the wrong message to children. Also, while a monkey might think that Bush's vices are the only true virtues, the fact remains that his dupes think that national-security interests can and should be sidestepped whenever his personal interests are at stake. I say to them, "Prove it" -- not that they'll be able to, of course, but because Bush's drug-induced ravings are as predictable as sunrise. Whenever I clarify and correct some of the inaccuracies present in Bush's hastily mounted campaigns, his invariant response is to glorify the things that everyone else execrates. The law is not just a moral stance. It is the consensus of society on our minimum standards of behavior. I could go on for pages listing innumerable examples of Bush's mad announcements and repugnant undertakings. I have already written enough, surely, to convince you that Bush hates it when you say that I'd like people who leave a generation of people planted in the mud of a satanic world, to begin a new life in the shadows of phallocentrism to find themselves behind bars, looking out. He really hates it when you say that. Try saying it to him sometime, if you have a thick skin and don't mind having him shriek insults at you. I can't stress this enough, but he has found a way to avoid compliance with government regulations, circumvent any further litigation, and create profound emotional distress for people on both sides of the issue -- all by trumping up a phony emergency. Sorry for babbling so much, but that statement can be most easily defended, since it is not quantitative, but qualitative.
