Don't they discover planets really often that are millions of light years away? I always thought they just never bothered to announce it since it doesn't affect us.
your reffering to actual sun like stars. planets are hard to find because they are so small, the best telescopes in the world can not see them. the way they find planets is via observations of their home star. if the star is seen to wobble in its movement, that mean there is a big force acting on its movement, generaly this is a very big planet that has a gravitational effect on its neighboring sun.
Exactly. How is this going to affect our lives in any way? We're not going to live there, and it's just another useless NASA venture which is costing the Government billions, which could be going to FAR better causes
that's a pretty blatant remark there. first off where did u get the idea that they are spending billions of dollars on this project anyway? besides you can be thankful that not all your taxes are going to waste. Nasa usualy does joint ventures with other countries when it comes to research. i am disturbed by the fact that you along with others are not at all hindered by these finds. i tend to back NASA or any other astronomical agency for that matter that contributes to the overall human curiosity, no matter how you look at it, it will be helpfull research sometime down the road. now most people's minds are limited to their lifespan and will most likely ignore the generations of lives to come. it may be true that your not going to settle on those planets in your life time, but it will be credible in the generations to come.
