I just got my first electric gutiar a few days ago and I've been playing acoustic for ages and people say I have lots of talent for guitar. I don't have a teacher and I want to know how to get better, like how do you improve your skills?

    Practicing switching between chords?

Just find guitar tabs and play them and when you can play one difficult song you'll find other ones easier because you can play at that level. Near that level, or above that levle.

More or less what .01 said.

My friend just goes online and gets tabs. Once he "Masters" one set he goes to the next song, And so on and so forth.

But tabs don't really teach you the stuff. I would suggest to just get a "Do it yourself" book. And from there teach yourself.

^^ then why bother posting v1ctory?

If you want to improve dramatically - you got to be at least practicing every day for a minimum of an hour - i practice 3 - 4 hours everyday :)

To get you started off - look over the basics over at ultimate-guitar.com (they have amazing lessons) - make sure your understand music theory well. Then after learning the basic's, learn as many chords as possible (and get them memorized) - then make your own little song then. It'll also help if you started memorizing the sounds of how the chords go, and then you can start distinguishing in songs what chords they use :)

From there onwards, you can go into major/minor/penotonic scales, but thats if your wanting to learn how to improvise, if you want to start improvising - go straight into blues as a first thing. It'll help you in the long run ;)

Thats my bumbled up piece of advice - if you need more info or care to teach me a thing or two on guitar (xD) then feel free to add me on MSN - [email protected]

I wish I could play guitar...but my fingers are crooked...so that means no bass either...and I have foot problems so no drums.

---- man, I got screwed over.

    Good luck playing.
