modem cards? thats like 1995 architecture.. unless you mean nics (network interface card), or rj-45

the easiest way to do it is get a 4-5 port router. netgear or linksys is good. most computers these days come with a network port built in. if not, the cards cost about 10 bucks a piece. just connect the wires, and set your gateway in 'network connections' to your router (which is usually 192.168.0.1, and subnet mask to 255.255.255.0), then you need to set up your computer's IP number which should be 192.168.0.xxx (xxx being and number from 2-255)

Yep, a router is the best way to go, it's easy and lag free most of the time. ;)

Okay, the mention of the Modems was whack, the wireless is pure personal choice. When you go into the "My Network Places" you will see on the left side, the "setup up a home or small office network" icon thing. Just click that on all of your computers and then set up privelages VIA My Computer > Properties > Remote... also set up your My Computer > My SHared Files... then you will be on the same "Network" with all the comps in your home. Also, if you want a domain, that is a bit different story, you will need the same hardware with a Server Edition OS of some kind for a Domain controller. ;) If you need more help, just ask me.
