---- that, that is way too much. It seems like the only people getting the ps3 are the rich and spoiled, but they are expecting everyone to cash out $500. I am a huge fan of ps3 but i hope the sales suffer severly because of the price, to teach the company that jacking up their prices all because of hype is the wrong way to go. You figure by the time ps3 is out, Xbox360 will be around $200 probably, in stock, and all of the bugs will have been completely fixed. That's just way too much if they expect it to a big hit. Yes, it's a big deal, PS3, but calm down on the price.

600 dollars for the 60gb one? Wow, that´s a lot. But there are many months yet (half year) and I have time to save up for it, and the games. It will rock!!

Sadly what probably is making the price so high is the fact that the console is the superior in every way, and the technology for Blu-Ray discs is VERY pricey. I'm still debating which I want to get, I already have the csh for either versions but I have no clue what I would use a 60 GB hard drive for

    Thats ignorant of you.

Sony PS3 matches all of XBOX 360's statistics and has more on top of that. The only single statistic that XBOX has that PS3 doesnt is a different of 256 memory. If it doesnt match XBOX 360's stats, it beats them (such as the blue ray capability, multipel USBs, etc.).

They are taking a SACRIFICE starting with that price, they arent making an initial profit, the components cost the company approximately $800 to make a system 100% complete, and they are selling for $499-$599. They already learned from their PSP that increasing the amount of a "console" above the competition is bad for sales. They expect the price to manufacture parts to go down and ultimately turn from losing money to making money due to their innoventions on the gaming console world.

I doubt XBOX 360 will be $200 at the release of the PS3, but $250 I could see. Either way PS3 is highly anticipated by me and all other sony lovers. Sony has yet to let me down at all, whether it be computer parts, consoles, TVs, VCRs, DVDs, Stereos, etc. and I always get my moneys worth from their products.

Dont get me wrong, I am a full supporter of Sony's reliability in its products. I'm just trying to get over, even if they dropped it by $100 or atleast $50, people would be amazingly more willing to pay a max of $400 than $500. No surprise they would buy it more because its at a lower price, but when people look at things they estimate whats too high and what is reasonable. Sony may be taking a dive in the start as you say, but a lot of companies do. They will get their pay from what you said, plus also memory cards (i forget if it uses them, i think its sticks or something, but lets say expansions as an example), extra controllers which are gonna cost a penny because theyre wireless and now they have some touch addition, games (they get a portion), and additions like covers for your console, headsets, and miscellaneous things. In order to sell lemonade, you have to spend money buying the lemons and cups, but after a while you will make a profit. I also anticipated the ps3, a lot more than others. This is just a negative that I myself see, but others may not.

Its a negative, but compared to a inferior competitor the price is understandable... if they were to drop off the blue ray compatibility it would be about the same amount of the XBOX 360 and still more capable at start. The company is willing to make the initial sacrifice, as I am sure most consumers are as well.

Also, the only people who truly buy the console the first few months after it comes out are only hardcore people because everyone knows the first model always has bugs that arent found in traditional testing, just over time. After a year the price will have dropped a bit and be more stable and more people will be buying it after seeing it in action. I personally have a 360, not because I bought one tho, I wont it in a contest at wal-mart the first day it was released. I see no reason to really get one right now because there is such an extremely limited selection of games.

For the PS3, multiple tens of companies are already focusing on making games for the initial release of the PS3 as the beta model is pretty much available to the companies that manufacture games to fuel the console (like im sure Square Enix has a beta PS3 right now they are using to start up the FF XIII game testing). The price is a little steep, but the selection is going to tie, if not beat, the XBOX 360s titles in numbers as well as gameplay (IMO, since PS has the types of games i personally like playing, which XBOX doesnt in comparison).

The blue ray allows for longer games, more in-depth details to be pertained to (such as maybe... an active environment? like trees swaying varying on the day you play based on wind conditions and stuff, the possibilities with 24 gb/disk of space is endless).

I totally agree with these 2 statements lol.

    ___

The only bad thing I could say about the blue-ray is that I heard it uses a different disc type or something like that? The files for the games are gonna be foreign to everyone. But, I could see myself stashing some money and waiting for it to drop then buying it. Just one wish, which is a lot with other people too, is to get the ps3 around the time it comes out (excluding the bugs). I can see why they start with a high price though, because as stated before hardcore gamers will get it and thats more than they would get if they bought it at a cheaper starting price.

I gurantee you by having the PS3 wait and come out this year its allowed Sony to fix most of the major kinks in the Blu-Ray disc format and in the console itself. Sony isn't stupid to rush their console out and have a 360 type incident because that leads to alot of problems. Also many industry related people are saying that the Blu-Ray disc format and the Toshiba HD-DVD disc format will be a repeat in the VCR and BetaMax battle in the 1980's. Sony lost that battle but I think by using the Blu-Ray disc on the PS3 it shows how confident they are in the format. Anyhow I plan to get my ps3 first month if not first week.
