I just watched the whole Sony E3 Conference. For North America Ships November 17th 2006 20 Gig HDD System- $499 60Gig Hdd System- $599 Ill try and get more info soon. Sony just announced PS3 launch details as follows from the conference floor: "Today we're pleased to announce the global PS3 launch details. We will make PS3 available via a two-configuration plan. One with a 60GB HD. And the other with a 20GB hard drive. Japan's date: Nov. 11. In Japan 59,800 Yen. The 60GB PS3 will have an open price which retailers will set. In North America [to launch Nov 17]: 20GB for $499, 60GB for $599. Europe has 20GB for 499 Euro, 60GB for 599 Euro. 2 million to ship worldwide during the launch window. 4 million by end of calendar year 2006. By March 31, 2007 they'll have shipped 6 million worldwide." Sony's new controller. Sony just revealed the final controller for the PlayStation 3 during their E3 keynote (which we're live-blogging here). What does it look like? Short answer: an awful lot like the PlayStation 2's existing Dual Shock. There is one addition. The PS3's new controller contains some additional Wii-esque functionality without any sensors needed. Did Sony just gank Nintendo's secret weapon? Looks like it. Specs include: * X-Y-Z, pitch, roll, yaw, and lateral motion detection * Bluetooth and wireless controls * It's lighter than the PS2 controller So the PlayStation 3, as we just learned, is launching as two different SKUs. Since many of you have asked, and just as many of you have tipped us to the press release, here are the differences between the "base" and "premium" version of the console. * You lose 40GB (20GB base vs. 60GB) * You lose HDMI output * You lose MemoryStick / SD / CompactFlash slots * You lose 802.11 b/g wireless * You save $100 We are not sure how upgradeable the base model is going to be. The extra $100 is looking good to us. It's kind of strange how Sony did an about-face on the multiple SKU model, but we guess it has something to do with that $599 price tag.
Jesus...600$? I guess it's worth it? Aww, now the control wont come back to you when you throw it lol oh well.
Hmm I'm thinking I defintely want the best version I can get but is 600 bucks worth it for the additional hard drive? probably.
Depends on how much memory the game saves take up, although now that I think about it I will probably be putting songs, videos, and extra crap on there not to mention the PSP link...so yea I think 60gig will be worth it.
could get a whole comp for it, and that controller * you'd thought they get a new design * Ah well good system overall.
499-599$ USD. As for the controler I like it, you don't have to get used to anything new and it's a good design.
You get an extra 40gig...(which can be used to store whatever the hell you want, they are adding alot of extra crap)
If games start taking advantage of storing information on your HDD (faster/no loading times), you would be ----ed if you didnt have enough space.
it not exacly diff between 20gb hdd and 60gb hdd is 40gb space 499 system lack of some stuff Cheap System ($500) 20GB HDD No HDMI No WiFi No input/output for MemoryStick, SD, CompactFlash Expensive System ($600) 60GB HDD 1x HDMI WiFi b/g Input/Output for MemoryStick, SD, CompactFlash http://www.scei.co.jp/corporate/rele...f/060509ae.pdf here you go.
The controller, is hardly next gen. It looks exactly like their old ones but with some ripped off Nintendo technology. Dissapointed with that.
Yeap Japan's date: Nov. 11. In Japan 59,800 Yen. The 60GB PS3 will have an open price which retailers will set. In North America [to launch Nov 17]: 20GB for $499, 60GB for $599. Europe has 20GB for 499 Euro, 60GB for 599 Euro.
Ouch, that's a little on the expensive side. The controller, I'm glad it didn't change, it's my favorite out of the current gen.
