    Ok.

Here is some specs of my pc

    Here is my video card

I do meet the minimum system requirements to play Source games like Half Life 2 and Counter Strike:Source. I can run them at about 15 frame rates per second. My PC is actually pretty fast for 256MB RAM.

I am going to upgrade my PC to 1 GB of RAM this friday.

    Here is my question.

If I get 1 GB of RAM will Source games be able to run perfectly on my PC or would I need to get a better video card of 256 MB? I heard somewhere that I would have to get a better video card like 256 Mb to make the games run perfectly in addition to RAM.

Can I just have 1 GB RAM on this PC and my 64 MB video card and run the Source games perfectly? So do I need the better video card in addition to 1 GB RAM?

I can run games like CS 1.6 perfectly.

That video card sucks. You need to get at least and x800+ for ATI or 6600+ for nVidia. You also need more RAM for it to run smoothly.

ya 1gb of ram will run those game easy and u will notice a big speed up in ur computer my advice is is u have 4 color coded ram shots that means dual channel and that runs faster all u do is say first shot nothing pulged in under that there is under that nothing under that ther is take out the ones thats pluged in and put 1 512md in the 1 that didnt have nothing in and the other 512mb put in the other shot that had nothing in and ur done

and about the video card upgrade get a x800 or somthing simler if u dont do much gaming then get a cheap video card like a 5500 or a 6200 or a 5200 u can get them cheap just stay away from the 4000MX

I only have the money for RAM right now.

So just 1 GB of RAM with the same video card will run the source games smoothly?

idk how smooth you mean, it will help a ton, but still, thats a very low end gfx card...so that will hold you back.

Yeah, that card is giant setback. You won't run it smoothly, unless you go down to like 800x600 on low-medium settings.

So. I will not be able to run source games smoothly with just 1 GB RAM and I need a better video card?

I mean smooth as in like its playable online and single player.
Where I can have fun playing and I good frame rate per seconds.

My screen is 800x600 so that should help right.

So I would not be able to play source games smoothly on 1 GB RAM and my existing video card? Should I bag the RAM?

The only reason I am getting RAM is to run games like Day of Defeat:Source smoothly. I can run Day of Defeat: Soruce in small rooms right now at like 35 FPS.

no - your CPU and GFX card are crap
no - you don't "need" 256mb of vRAM on a card for it to run perfectly, 128 woudl sufice assuming the cards GPU is good enough
no - no ou would nbeed a better CPU too
obviously, they require a slower CPU, less vram, and a lesser GFX card.

settle for elss than perfect unless you want an entire new system...

just add a strip fo 512mb of ram to your comp for 30 bucks.

you can't just add vram to your card, and even then it wouldn't matter if you had 1,000,000mb of vram on it because it's core sucks. a 7900GTW with 64mb of vram will generally outperform a 6200with 512mb of vram. what matters on a card is it's core speed & the number of pipelines, memory bandwidth and speed, and lastly the quantity of memory past say 64 or 128mb of vRAM.

fr a GFX card, try getting either an x700 or a 6600, look around for a good deal

I will be taking the 256 MB RAM out of this pc and putting in a 2 strips of 512 MB making it 1 GB.

That should help I would think.

Tell me this. Would it be worth it to upgrade this pc 1 GB RAM to play Source games?
