I have a 'REAL' job now, where I am being paid alot more than $10 a week... (long story, but let's get to the point, shall we?) I want to go all new on this, not just a mangy update. Also go for moderate prices, not the highest, not the lowest crap. I'll only use it so that if there ever is a power outage, I'll have enough time to shut it down. Newegg preferred in the US. **Note: I will buy this in about 3-4 months, so prices may go down by then...**
you could get a midrange intel cheap (ive heard pent 4s are the best for this and have been pushed passed GHz) and Phase Change to OC to insane porportions (lile ive said its been pushed passed 6GHz), just a suggestion
no, im personally an AMD fan, but Intels are cheeper and usually have more OC capability, esp the 4 because of the way its made...
Just stop, or help, OK? AMD is better for gaming, OCing, and much more. Sure, the higher AMDs are more expensive, like the X2 or the Optereon, but just a simple Athlon 64 3500 is cheaper than any Intel at that speed and/or capability.
eh, i dunno about that. ill start off with some argueing, then get to helping with your build the PXE can surely OC to a much higher % then the FX's or just about any AMD processor (not to count out the pentium 4's capabilities to OC.) just as we all know, they arent as effective, missing more clocks then the amd predicesors. but i see dark dragon's point about suggesting a pentium 4. since you're looking at water cooling and more `advanced` cooling features, you could have an extreme overclocking computer.\ back to your build. since you're gonna be getting an AMD, i would see it fit to not get the water cooling kit and use the $100 that you would on that on a better processor (x2 or maybe even a conroe if you were interested in that.) the RAM, i wouldnt go 4x512, 2x1 gb i would prefer. gfx card... 7800 GS or something to that effect. hard drive... i'd say like 1 40-80 GB for your main, then like 230-300 for your extra (if you need an extra, dunno how many hard drives you have now.) you could throw them into a RAID setup if you please. everything else seems good. more info on intel's processor's OCing capabilities or AMD's or just about everything's Ocing capabilites: ocforums.com
Wow ... too bad the 7800 GS is only availible for AGP ... and AMD's overclock better than Intels EXE because the EXE's are already hot before overclocking so just stop arguing. I suggest getting either: x1800 XT: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814102698 or 7900 GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130015 both cards are very good for gaming and under $300 PSU: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/Se...2155044&CatId=0 RAM: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231021 Will post more things later.
I agree AMDs don't heat up as much as a Pentium, but they still can get pretty hot, and i always wanted a water cooling system. if it is built into the case, it's easier to set up..
what the hell are you talking about? the tempuratures matter less since he is planning on getting water cooling. whilst i have seen plenty of pentium 4's get over 6 Ghz, i have failed to see an AMD processor beet that, or am i mistakened? and yes, the GS is only for AGP, forgot. there are plenty of different and good gfx cards out there, pointless to start naming off them 3 months from his purchase. but your suggestions are good atm and dont even suggest the FX-60, its multiplier has a hard time at/past 15x, it wont be getting to 6ghz
What?!? 6 GHz ... maybe with Liquid Nitrogen cooling. With water cooling you could get a P4 into the 4 GHz range ... but not 6 GHz ... you should read Maximum PC once in a while.
you need to outsource your readings buddy. it has been done by many people. visit ocforums.com or some other overclocking forum. Merged Post: ill clear up your confusion. http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?t=4...&highlight=club cheers.
Wow ... that proc wont last very long ... and he never states what kind of cooling he is using. Liquid nitrogen most likely. I have seen procs overclocked even more than this with liquid nitrogen cooling and graphics cards as well. You would also need top quality RAM and Mobo ... overclocking things like this are highly unlikely for even people who are very skilled at overclocking.
Ok here is my 2 cents, since its xmasterx ill put some time into it. -DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D (Can mod to SLI if you want to even though you said you didnt.) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813136152 -Western Digital Caviar SE16-KS 250GB (Best $/GB ratio) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144701 -AMD A64 3700+ San Diego (Alot of these 3700's have been hitting 3ghz easily) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103539 or -AMD Opteron 165 Denmark (Right behind the 3800x2 in every test on stock, once overclocked it will be a beast) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103588 -OCZ PowerStream 520w (Highly recommended by DFI-street as best overall PSU) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817711002 -G.SKILL Extreme Series 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC4000-HZ (DFI + G.Skill = best overclock, plus DDR500 will be an easy overclock) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820231021 -eVGA Geforce 7900GT KO 256MB/256-Bit (newest HS on the market + 90-day step-up) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16814130015 -Antec Performance I P-160W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811129173 or -Antec Performance I P180 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811129154 or (full-tower) -Thermaltake Armor Series VA8000BWS http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811133154 Ive had numerous builds with each case, all three are great in their own way. -AOpen Standerd PS/2 (you said simple so... <_< ) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16823144002 -Logitech G7 Wireless mouse (wireless isnt the best for gaming but if i had to pick id pick the G7) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16826104203 -Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 4 Pro (you asked for it, a little excessive and expensive for my taste but your choice) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16829102181 or (if you change your mind) -Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16829102188 -LITE-ON DVD 16x/CD 48x Combo Burner (i know you said NEC but i like Lite-ON ) http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?...N82E16827106256 Also you said watercooling so http://www.frozencpu.com/ (I dont do watercooling becuase i just dont )
You know, if you have any clue as to how to set up your cooling, the OC of an Intel chip and the setup of an AMD chip of the same Hz will set you around the same temperature at start off. By the time you narrow it down because it is water cooled, it will be around 2*-4* or so and it will not make much of a difference. I overclocked my Pentium D and got it at x2 4.0 and it idled VERY well and even under presure it idled at VERY good temperatures... it barely gets over 50*C... so, I might be mistakin' or you might just not know how to set up some true cooling. This is both on the computer I bought with liquid cooling and my P4 with Thermaltake. They both have very likable temperatures and why? Well, read the manual as you set up the liquid cooling, and make sure you use same good liquid. As for video cards, you are on your own to fight over that. I just own an x1900xt and I love it. It runs quite and everything. The only thing that doesn't run too quite is my PSU, it runs pretty loud, but all things concidered, it's not too loud for the fact that I am just used to almost silence. *Shrugs*
bull----.. I OCed my opteron about 50% on stock voltage and 45% on below stock(will push lower in time) trust me, when your motherboard and your overclocking ram are you limits, you're set. to master... I HIGHLY SUGGEST THE OPTERON 165!!!!!!!! 170 IS ALSO GOOD, BUT IF YOU DON'T NEED 2.8GHZ THE 165 WILL SUFFICE, stock cooling is excellent as is. if you don't want a dual core proc, just get a A64 3000+(or an opteron 144, some are getting to 3ghz) single core procs will be obsoleted anyway so don't bother spending the extra $$$ on something higher. for ram, I would recomend the G. Skill extreme(which I have, it onyl seems to want to do 265 for me though, but i need to mess with timings more) but apparently newegg has taken ntoe of it's popularity and has raised the price... http://www.newegg.com/Product/CustRatingRe...N82E16820227066 if you can wait for a rebate take that stuff motherboard: ultra-d as most people say... beware the 300mhz FSB limit... ohh well, you'll survive... as for the gfx card, either tha 7600GT or the 7900GT, your call depending on what you need. soundcard... no need IMO... DFI has fairly good int sound as it is, unless you have a good stereo speaker system the diference is neggligeable. PSU, I'm thinking an Antec True Power II PSU http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16817103931 only bad thing about it is that it has TOO MANY CORDS, and that they are tangled around the base of the PSU and you woudl need to perform surgery to fix it(which isn't really necessary) 75 bucks after rebate... not too bad IMO, 10 cheaper than what I got it for. to AKW, my opteron barely gets over 48C with both cores underload with stock air cooling with no case fans and the side fo the case removed(hence the reason fo no case fans, plus I need to buy a few) as to the fool who had the proc at 6ghz... highly abnormal surely nto a normal OC, likely using phase change(perhaps peltier which is Pchange used to cool a water resevoir in watercooling) or nitrogen, and no you won't get an Athlon to 6Ghz, but at 4 it should be outperforming one at 6 due to the fact that the 6ghz netburst proc is bandwidth limited. also, master, all 939 boards as far as I know have 4 DIMM slots(it doesn't cost any more and the memory controller is on the CPU not the NB chipset)
