ok... don't tell me "don't get a dell" or I'll shoot you...

I got this from a refurb place for a cheap 20 bucks, with no OS, and no hdd.

    Optiplex GX150, P3 1ghz, 256mb SDRAM, DVD Rom

    I put in myself:

40gb hdd and 80gb, and an extra 128mb.

I bought this to replace my shetty 700mhz computer, that im going to use as a home file server.

I loaded on XP Pro, and I wanted to test how quiet it was on stand-by, so i hit shut down, then stand-by in the window. It's quiet as hell :) then i hit the keyboard to make it come out of stand-by, and it freezes up... tried this several times, no result.

    Now, im thinking either:

    1. it's just the shetty dell

    or

    2. I need more memory

    your thoughts?

these are the system requirements of win xp, and it sounds like you have this down. This is a complete guess, but I think *MAYBE* a system file was messed up and this is why it is doing this. I a prob completely wrong but w/e :D

Why don't you simply try to not use standby mode? I never use it much myself, I simply just turn off the monitor and walk away LOL. But to be quite honest I don't know whats wrong but a file is probably corrupt and caused it to freeze up.

ok, fixed it myself. I accidentially loaded XP on a secondary HDD, so when it gets out of stand-by, its looking on the first disk, which has nothing on it, so it freezes.

i had a friend using XP with a 900mhz celeron and a mere 128mb of ram(of which some was shared with int GFX) and he didn't have crashes like that...

    my theory...

    a ----ty dell...

did you try pressing the power button after standby, I've noticed I had to do that on my own...

EDIT:... wow literacy is a weird thing... sorry shouldn't have bumped this
