im thinking on reformatting my comp and want to know how many people prefer what... i heard that MCE was better than pro and just want to know why and all of that...
i personally prefer MCE, but thats for a couple of reasons. XP Pro and XP Home arent really different, they both get the same updates, etc., just pro has more capability for networking in companies, and when used in companies, its a little more secure than home's networking capabilities. MCE, on the other hand, is not the same as XP Home or Pro. It has its own updates (whereas pro and home both use the same updates, like SP2), it doesnt have some of those networking programs and stuff like pro does, but it replaces what pro adds to home with mutlimedia software to make it into a multimedia studio.
I would say that you'll be fine with 512MB of memory, but it will be a lot safer and performance would be a lot better if you go to a Gig. If your planning to play DivX, XviD, H.264 files, WM9, or later on HD files, those will demand more memory in the long run.
Dude, this is a no brainer. The MS XP Pro is the same but with less features as MCE. MCE is pro based. I have a Pro, Serv 2003 and mce 02 and MCE 05. MCE IS pro based and just adds multimedia features. It DOES use SP2 and I have ALL the shots to prove ALL of this. It has the same features and security of pro. The end.
why does it state on the microsoft site (if i stumble across the link for some reason) that it runs off of a different update engine and its not named SP2 (though its the equivelent of SP2)?
Let me get all of my stuff together and I will show you. What I mean. Merged Post: Read this. I dont care what Microsoft tells you. I know it's Pro.
Im Currently Running windows xp pro on the current PC im on and Running MCE on my laptop. To be honest they are near same, apart from the fact that MCE has networking advancement for Streaming Audio/Video, which is what i Us to stream Audio/video to my xbox 360. My laptop Only Has 256 mem and runs without any problems and runs smooth. But that would be down to me removing alot of the un-needed programs, also another plus is its cheaper
LOL I haven't try media center edition yet. But looking at the high powered small CPU and MEDIA FUNCTIONS, it makes me wanna throw away the XP pro
glad i read this over again... i thought you were talking about XP vs ME at first  I have XP Pro, only because I got it from my college, only paid $8 for it...
