your fan on the back of the case will be placed in the vent, they just like fitted it in there, probably just a pull would get it out. once you get the fan off the vent, you will have to customly mod the fan so it some how hangs on the back of the case. because right now, its hanging on the vent thing and the vent has the hinges that hang onto the back

Ok ... I did what u said and I pulled the green thing out ... and the fan already pulls air out of the computer so thats alright. And once again ... I will tell you guys, I don't think other heatsinks will fit my case because it is a dell and they use a different size than normal motherboards. No ThermalTake hsf will work because I have already called them ... don't know about zalman though.

I am wondering now if it is my gfx card. It gets over 70 degrees C now while gaming for about 15 to 30 minutes. I am wondering if this is heating up my whole system because it was never as hot when I had my 5200 FX. I have heard good reviews about the Acrtic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 and was wondering if I should get that if I can save up some extra cash. It is currently $30 with free shipping on ZipZoomFly.com

well all recent Dells use either s 478 or LGA 775... most 3rd party companies make heatsinks to fit in them... the links I ave you all work.

FYI stock heatsinks are typically somewhat crappy

70C while playing games is fine. As long as it doesnt get above 85C your fine.

I have an ASUS x850 XT Platinum Edition. Once it gets to 80 degrees ... it shuts down automatically ... so when it gets above 70 it tends to get hotter fairly fast. It hasn't crashed on me yet while playing games but while running like overclocking tests and stuff ... it overheats very quick and crashes. It does heat up the rest of my case as well because my case fan at the back is temperature controlled, when I removed the green tube it stayed the same speed ... but when I started gaming the fan started roaring (usually doesn't do that). So in theory it would cool the rest of my system a little bit.

Also: Dell doesn't use the stock intel formfactor heatsink for 478 (thats what I have) I think they use something called a proprietary heatsink or something like that ... so 3rd party ones dont fit. I will call Zalman and see whats up ... if thats true or not.

I know ... I know. If it was up to me and I had more money ... I would have just built my own. But my parents were giving it to me for free since they were buying a laptop. So I took a chance on it and I put a quite a bit of stuff into it. I think that thier customer service sucks and they don't build that good of machines ... but for free.

    Before:
    P4 3.0 GHz w/HT
    512mb (2 x 256) of PC3200 RAM
    120 GB Hard Drive
    Geforce 5200 FX 128 MB
    No Sound card
    250w Dell PSU

    After:
    Same Processor
    1.5 GB (2 x 512, 2 x 256) of PC3200 RAM
    Same Hard Drive
ASUS x850 XT PE 256 MB
    Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value
    430w ThermalTake PSU

much faster than it was before. It is pretty good for a Dell and is ranked in the top 2% on Microsofts Game Advisor thing made by Futuremark.

i agree it is good. a lot fo people here are AMD fanboys and underrate netburst. on the low end of the athlon 64s it's actually pretty close. are you sure they have their on proprietory mounting system for the HSF, I doubt it.

That is what Thermal Take said. I emailed Zalman to see what they say.
