Censorship at a certain grade should be there.
Of course parents have to protect their children themselves, but some things can and should be banned in general, i.e. talking about the "lie of auschwitz".

btw that "freedom of speech" does not apply to tv. you can send anything you want, but you will get sued if you send hitler propaganda. it's actually self-censoring on tv.

    I ----in' hate censorship. :P

But seriously, I don't see why things are heavily censored nowadays. Kids are learning about foul language and sexual content at younger and younger ages because of either their parents, television or videogames. Not to say that that the entertainment industry is to blame, but rather the parents for not knowing any better and having their kid watch it, hear it and/or speak it.

    wait wait.

    You say

    a) You dont want censorship
    B) Kids learn foul language from television
    c) Parents are to blame

    ?

Can you see the contradiction? General self-censoring gets rid of that foul language. So parents dont even have to follow their kids around 24/7.
Of course you should control what your kids watch on the tellie. But excessive cursing etc. can be moved to later hours when kids are asleep already. You dont see porn at 15:00, neither.

No, I either mistyped or you misunderstood.

I'm saying "I ----in' hate censorship" was sarcastic, as I thought the ":P" emoticon, it was to be taken lightly. And I was saying censorship is stupid because of the early learning of sexual content and language.

Censorship all in all is only needed for children, but young adults and adults have to endure it. Music, Movies, etc..

Censorship is appropriate for lots of reasons...but probably the biggest reason is that children shouldn't be introduced to certain things early in life, because they haven't matured and realized what is accepted in everyday life and what is not. TV, games, and movies, and songs are censored largely because of this - and because they're so easily accessable without ratings (M, R, PG-13...etc) in place.

censorship on TV is a necessary thing, but only for the reason that, as has been said numerous times, kids shouldn't be exposed to adult themes early.

in rare cases beyond that, it can be good. people hatemongering, saying sh** just to try to get people angry, or to offend other people need to be censored. it boils down to a respect thing.

should you be able to stand on a street corner and preach that everyone is a sinner? sure, you're not hurting anyone.

should you be allowed to say that hitler had it right? grey area. if it's what you believe, ok, but be prepared to have no one agree with you. if you're saying it just to provoke a reaction? no, thats unnecessary. if you're in a synagogue? NO WAY

should you be allowed to stand at a military funeral and say that God wanted to punish the deceased for living in a corrupt society? absolutely NOT. the message may be something you believe, but going to a funeral and saying it in front of a bereaved family is just plan evil.

it comes down to circumstances, and unfortunately there's no easy way to make a blanket law or protocol. people are entitled to their right to say and do what they believe, but I think as a society we have a greater respinsibility to be kind and respectful of our fellow citizens. say what you will, but don't hurt others deliberately. we can't say that no one can say hurtful things, but there has to be a line, and I think that censorship of those who cross that line is a very good thing.

an we need to censor FOX News :D

Nothing should be censored in my opinion.
Your going to see all the violence, sex, and drugs anyway. What is the point in prolonging the moment you witness it? Experience it?

I dont get this theory that, if you show violence to younger kids its going to affect them in some way? It's just going to prepare them better for being grown up.
