(by americans) Like Green Day - American Idiot -> media critique (I know they are phony) 2pac - Panther Power -> black people disadvantaged Madonna - American Life -> Superficialty of American Dream Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy -> marxist critique of american dream (enemy within country, AD only for "elite" people, true values are brutality and ignorance etc.) Public Enemy - Black Steel in the Hour of Chaos -> "Lady Liberty is a hipocrite", "Uncle Sam never gave a damn about me", equal chances only for white people
Im not sure about this one, i think a song is a way how the artist expesses stuff, weather its somethign thats happened in their life or something they feel strongly about...
Yes, but most songs have a message and critique in them. Look that the lyrics of Rage Against the Machine - Know your enemy "Yes I know my enemies They’re the teachers who taught me to fight me Compromise, conformity, assimilation, submission Ignorance, hypocrisy, brutality, the elite All of which are american dreams " Which basically says that the values taught are wrong and the real enemy of people is the government and it's governing/controlling bodies etc. and the american dream is for nobody except the elite.
Thats a bunching of bull---- people who don't participate in " the American Dream" are a bunch of lazy good for nothings who should be deported. The only excuse is if you have some kind of disability such as blindness.
i think that these 2 examples are cant be used here i mean after all, they were only enslaved for many years, killed for no reason, and publicly humiliated besides, tupac was born from a mother who was a black panther (look it up) and she was in jail for her skin color while she gave birth to him. I think the least they could say as that they were disadvantaged and its safe to say that equal chances were for whites only
wow freedom fighter again. More ignorance. Think about it, to get ahead, most important thing you need is post secondary education. You have to have money to go. Sure they can be smart and get scholarships, but it cant cover all of it, and even though you get good marks and work hard doesnt mean you'll get scholarships. If you cant go to university, guess what, you're screwed. If you're rich however (the elite), you just need decent marks, and you can easily pay for it. American dream is for the elite. If you deport those people, guess what, your country wont run. Because no 1 will want to work, every 1 wioll want to be at the top and the country wouldnt function. Think about it dummy
That's not what it means. That line simply states that you gotta fight to live. It means that life isn't all cute and peachy like everyone thinks, that your dreams come at a cost. And that cost is your work. Whether you compromise or go the brutal route it doesn't matter. As long as you fight.
I already did my oral presentation... 3 weeks ago. Teacher agreed with everything I said... I picked - Know Your Enemy (Unequal chances, American Dream just an illusion) - Madonna American Life (Superficialty) - Eminem White America (Jealousy)
Did any of you know 2pac wrote songs of struggles and "disadvantages" so people can do something about it? He even said it himself that he will keep making songs about similar/related topics till someone does something about it. Criticise that please.
