Whats up with tests like the SAT, ACT, MCAT, etc...I mean, your future depends so much upon tests. You need to pass to get into college, to graduate from highschool...does the system really work? I think it's a stupid system....I mean, I know some smart ppl that just cant take tests...but can figure lots of things out. What do you think?
Yeahh they suck. I'm good at practical and in lesson, I just suck when it comes to tests. Plus test's are actually the reason Girls tend to be cleverer then boys, in like 1950s when all the science etc. was less tests and more practical the boys always did far better.
Well... standardized(*cough*) tests are set forth to distinguish the moreso intellgent people from the less intellgent people. Think about this, most smart people will tend not to do well on tests (around here atleast) as most of them are lazy, plain and simple. They carry a mind about themselves being, "i know this already, so i dont need to study for this test and ill ace it" and end up getting the C-D test grade, whereas that ditsy blonde in the corner who knows she isnt the brightest crayon in the box did study and grasps the concept well enough (book smarts, compared to practical intellegence, as most males have) and aces the test. As broken said, its a matter of resourcefulness vs practicality. Women tend to put forth that desire to use their resources to get what they need done, whereas males tend to be very practical about their thinking in that they know something, so why study more on it? Its the same thing as, "if its not broken, why fix it?" Also, they distinguish those lazy people from those who have a passion. Lazy people tend to not do well on tests as most lazy people are arrogant in the situation they are being lazy in (often times males). However, a resourceful person will score well as they are well prepared, but they also only are distinguished for brief moments of their life. Maybe they took the SAT and ACT extremely well prepared and seriously (studied for it, etc.) and outside those two tests they are the laziest people on the planet. IMO standardized tests alone are worthless, but they are also compared with the classes taken and the grades in those classes to determine the intellegence of the individual, which then eliminate the potential of the laziness and willingness to succeed and only ends up seperating those from the different brackets of intellegence. So, in short, standardized tests are worthless alone, but are very worthy when compared along with something else to force an end result of the individual.
Im the other way around .dementia I ---- around in class, and dont do assignments (because im lazy) but make it up on tests.
as am i, which is why i do really well in college courses and i suck at high school courses, but there are always exceptions to the rule. Also, some people have a memory that responds better to auditory things, so simply hearing it works for some people than actually paying attention and writing it down and watching what the teacher is writing and purposefully listening, its similar to subliminal messages. There is 1 frame in a 60 frame/sec movie (or w/e its recorded at), yet your mind will record it and its stored in the memory banks, whether it be a conscious choice or subconcious choice, it happens. That is one of the things that makes the human mind SO great, its like an unlimited hard drive , it has so much room and it never runs out, just some files cache themselves lmfao (now that i have successfully made myself sound like the super nerd im just going to go sit in the corner and pity myself). Some people learn better with auditory, some others learn better with writing things down (like i do, i can listen and see other things, but if i write something down i wont forget it, even if i throw that sheet of paper away), some people learn better visually, whether it be a conscious choice to pay attention or not, the mind will record the actions going on, and they WILL be there.
yeah i hate these tests i study and stuff and i am pretty smart... (well alot of people tell me that for some reason idk) but yeah i bomb so many tests unless i have like some notes or stuff i can use...
Well it's all about getting a good all-around measure. The problem with using just a GPA scale is multifold. For one, GPA scales vary depending on the school. I've seen schools that have a 5-point scale, give 1 point for AP classes, etc. It's very inconsistent. Another thing is that a lot of your grade is made up of "bull----" assignments like homework, participation, etc. The SAT allows for an apples-to-apples comparison of a student's aptitude. I like it...I'm reasonably smart but kinda lazy. GPA - 3.4 SAT - 2250 The SAT is really going to save me when it comes to college apps. Edit - As for the MCAT, LSAT, etc. That's absolutely necessary because it tests your competence in that field. If you aren't ready to be a doctor, your MCAT results will show it. Same for lawyers and LSAT.
yeah, standardized testing is where I shine without it, my National Merit scholarship and 2320 SAT would be nonexistant.
it looks good in your college applications btw i dont live in US but wtf is a GPA scale and the SAT scale....
GPA is grade point average... its the average of all your grades put into number form per semester/year/high school career. f=0 d=1 c=2 b=3 a=4 in some places you bump those up by 1 for AP classes, so f=1 and a=5 and everything in between. For example: Freshmen year: class 1: A class 2: D class 3: B class 4: C class 5: A class 6: B class 7: A Total: 21... and there are 7 classes, so your average is a 3.0, so your overall GPA is a 3.0, or a B. They do this for each semester/year and when you submit your transcript to colleges they will look at your GPA based on semesters of the year and which classes, etc. SAT is the Scholastic Aptitude Test, its the test all college bound students in America take so that colleges can see how your ability is against other students abilities.
I just took the ACT. I didn't really think it was as hard as people say it is. I didn't study or practice either.
I was expelled before I could take the official SAT or ACT, I got my GED and took a CPT (college placement test) and between my projected ACT and SAT scores from the PSAT and the pre-ACT (name is escaping me right now, it varies by location, i think it was the plan test out here) and my CPT it was pretty much about a 2300 SAT, 32 ACT score projection when mixed with my projected scores from my PSAT and Plan Test. Sadly, with suspensions and my expulsion under my belt im not authorised to go to an ivy league or anything really close to it, but i can still go to a university (which i am currently doing via night classes). IMO they arent hard at all, I just had trouble on the essay parts as my hand gets cramped easily so I have to keep stopping and then write fast to catch up and stop again...
