We got into a debate in my group comm class about censorship. We got going and were talking about how you should be able to control what and what not is censored on your TV. Swear words, nudity, others. Also, why are things censored? Freedom of speech should allow anything to be said right? (Devils Advocate) - If you can see/hear/do whatever you want on TV wouldn't that de-sensetise(spelling?) you from things. and when you see someone get shot you won't care as much.

    Discuss. :)

What do you think TV would be like without it? Would it be better? Would it be worse?

err i think better as u get the real stuff in ur face, but it maybe offensive to people with young children ect. i also think it will encourage the younger generation to do the right thing after seeing the real effects of whatever they are watching. for example...a kid takes cocaine , he's on the "high" and gets in a car driving, and has an accident, hopefully it will be as gory and bloody as possible to shock the viewer enought to not do it :)

The way I feel about censors is that nobody forced you to watch south park. Nobody forced you to go buy GTA. Nobody forced you to listen to howard stearn. Nobody forced you to go get Ludachris Cd. Nobody forces you to do any of thoses things, therefor you have no right to complain. If you dont like south park dont watch it. All people do when the complain about something is give it more attention. ( let 25 to life die. the game sux anyway)

on TV: they can pretty much cesor anything they want. the company owns the movie/show/whatever, they can show/not show whatever they want.

the only reason we have cesors is the bleedin leftists. "the media is hurting our children" they cried. so we got government controls on media. way to elect those congressmen folks!

the only people that should be complaining about censorship is kids under 18. thing is, you cant do anything about TV censorship, and the rest is done by your parents ( where it SHOULD be done, not by the government, but by you parents ). so stop complaining to everyone, talk to them. its not impossible.

You can't say whatever you want. There has to be some restricrion

Swearing is fine by me, as long as it doesnt get too excessive. I really hate how they censor music videos and songs on the radio, just kills the songs. But i can understand why it'd be a problem for parents with little kids.

You can't say whatever you want, about race, relgiion, things of that nature.

as that may be but think about how many times we already tell people not to do drugs. hell, they told us in 2nd grade. However as that may be, people still did drugs. It's kind of a rebellion type thing.

But as for censorship. They do not really censor words that often anymore. People still say f*ck, sh!t, @ss, c*nt, b!tch. etc... I think it's more of a voluntary thing. I mean we buy our kids games that have killing of random people (GTA, Alien Invasion, etc...) but infact, the amount of actual murders by young ones have decreased since the release of playstation 1.

Then soccer moms came in, and said it was making it worse, how kids are not supposed to be playing this kind of game, whereas they are the one's buying it for them. which is kind of stupid in my humble opinion.
