True Crime: Streets Of New York Review As I say in my summary, it's not a GTA game and people go off on how this is a rip-off game. It's not. I like GTA3 - don't get me wrong. But where's the fun in being forced to linear patterns? Rockstar is a pretentious developer that puts their worlds in your face and tell you "we have funding, enjoy this game" and end up dropping the only games that really came out great because they're not as societally accepted. Gamespot ragged on True Crime: LA when it came out. The same fat angry dude that liked The Guy Game spouted on about how poor the game was - yeah, it could've been better, but his idea of better is "Grand Theft Auto." And if it were exactly like GTA, you'd all be saying it's a clone. Stop thinking this is the same - yeah, it's buggy and that's a flaw to recognize, but there are buggier games out there that get better marks and its because there's no bias in the reveiwing process. As for TC:NYC, this game is good. In some ways not as good as its predecessor, in some ways better, but is a good gaming experience nonetheless. The story is what you'd expect and plays exactly like that, but the true marvel of this game is the detail. Take the subway down to SoHo, get lost a bit, cops yell at you because you're black, the usual. The voice acting is top notch (+ The Walken, anybody?), the enemies actually put up a fight and the music is well chosen. The free roaming of the game is fun - steal whatever you like, plant evidence on innocent fools, solve random crimes, join fight clubs. Make money, you know? What it lacks from LA is the freedom to stop whatever you're doing and just kind of go beat dudes up, but that can be a good thing. If you like your experience to be taken more seriously, go for NYC because you're encouraged to keep solving crimes and cleaning up precinct zones, to keep yourself on the case. But if you're just around to blow stuff up, go for LA. I found it's easier to get into than GTA anyway since you're not bombarded by rules. Also, if you kill a few person 2 of your stars are already lit up in a GTA so if you wreak a little havoc by accident, you're already running from the police. In a True Crime game, you're granted more leeway, more opportunity to really have fun and make it your own. For people who enjoy shooting schools, stick to your GTA, but for people who don't make setting fires a career and just want to jump into a game to have fun, at least try this or LA out. Overall: 7.8
I didn't find this game interesting at all i put it down after a few hours ....i guess its not my style of game play.
i hated that game. i kept glitching out and ending up underneath the city. plus the controls are annoying to grapple cuz sometime you accidentley tackle them etc....
