    Hey all.
I had a school trip to Poland a few weeks ago. So one night (I was sleeping by a family there) I was bored, and my friend asked me if I wanted to watch a movie. He said he had a very fast program, I didn't believed him but okay. He opened DC++, connected to his hub, search for the movie I wanted (we were soldiers) and 10minutes later he downloaded the first CD. That was a 700MB file, and when we completed watching the first cd, the other 2 were finished. Now I tested his internet and he had 30kb download and 10kb upload. So how is this possible? I dont know if he had cable or DSL, but it was amazing. So I tried the program it to, but however, I can't get more then 280kb/sec, which is my iSP limit, when normal downloading programs etc. Does it goes by an other connection or something? I'm sure he didn't had it on his PC....

Yes I am very sure, I tested it with speedtest.nl, it always works and it's a prof. site. Maybe he is connected to a local(not shared on the internet) hub, with alot of other users in his country.

in poland I would suspect he has 30000kbps = 3.75mb/s rather than 30kb/s. They have fibre over there.

how fast you can download is not determined by the program but by your phone line, server and isp.

there is the possibility he was connected to a lan? We use dc++ as a chat client over at my university, and I can often get 1gb files in 3 minutes (thats a 100 mb/s connection).
70mb/m is just over 1 mb/s which is 8 mbits/sec, have u asked him how fast his connecton is??

    :P Daz

Nononono, he said he had a terible slow internet connection. I tried downloading files from locations all over the world, the maximum speed was 30kb/sec. And no he didn't had fibre, i'm quite sure of that. And yes I know that my speed is determined by my iSP. lol. I think he was connected to a local area hub. This was at home btw.

DC++ is an amazing program, but it can't give you the kind of performance you're saying. I'm willing to bet money that he has a fiber optic connection. East Europe has been the first to really implement it. It's cheap and fast as hell.
