im with most the other people in here, my computer doesnt go off at all unless i need to restart. It also doesnt go to standby either tho... for some reason its incapable of shutting itself off or going to standby (no one in computers could help, so now i just turn my monitor off and mute the music and go to bed).

I use the comp for Photoshop and sometimes internet, cuz PS would be too slow on my laptop and I'd have hardly any space left. So it's off a lot. But my laptop's on pretty much about 3/4 of the day.

i heard about some people burning their motherboards to ashes doing that, cuz their fans broke down for running straight for too much time, but if you have a side fan, you can leave it working for days i guess :P

just set it to energy conservation mode, uses as little as 1/4 the energy of a 10W lightbulb when it's idle. check controll panel for propper settings.

I rarely ever turn it off, seeing as booting is a useless time consuming process, which I'm not ready to deal with. :P

I used to leave mine on, but it played hell with the internet, so I shut it down every night now.

some argue its GOOD for your compter. when you turn on your computer, it sends a relatively large electrical surge through your system potentially damaging equipment(in the last 20 years, this has been minimized greatly, equipment now can typically withstand about 40,000 on-off cycles, which is about 10 years worth or more) and such a surge uses a fair amount of power, close to and sometimes even exceeding what you would have used just leaving it on in energy conservation mode.

also, leaving it on, without flipping a surge protector uses about 2-3W of power in order to mantain network connectivity, and small services... don't beleive me, check the back of your ethernet port for a small light on even when the computer is "off"

the only time where it might be bad is when you have some process which is using your CPU/ram/GPU at 100% for an extended period fo time.
