I am downloading a program at the moment and its in .iso format. What is an iso file and how do I use once its downloaded?

Lets no go into what Im downloading but its of a shareware program such as eMule or Limewire, I am using eMule. Most programmes I download are in a archive file such a zip or a rar and then inside them is the exe or whatever but this is a .iso file, what do I do with it once its downloaded?

.iso is pretty much like .rar and .zip. It is a special format that you use when you want to "compress" all the files on a cd and the cd specs. So if a game asks for cd 2 you can just select the .iso file instead of the real cd.

    hope you understand ^_^

So once its downloaded I can just open it up like a rar or a zip?
I guessed it was something to do with CD's coz it has a little CD icon next to it.

Im sure ive got some sort of program on my PC that can open iso's becuase there are other iso files on my computer and they have a little like CD next to em so surely if I had nothing that could open iso's it would have the windows icon next to it, you know what I mean.

an iso is just an image of the cd/dvd so its easy to setup to burn. If you get the iso just use Alcohol 120% to mount it to a virtual drive or Nero to burn it to a disc.

    You dont have to

Just download alcohol 120% - It has a virtual drive which you mount it on and act as a real CD :)
