Since you have such a high budget, get a GeForce 7800 graphics card. Also, nab a 500gb hard drive and get a dvd burner.

recommended many times, i'd go with the GeForce 7900
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList....ATTR18=&ATTR19=

anyone of those from that link would be good. you can tell they are certainly popular, every single 7900GT is out of stock.

and if you still got any money left over, and you want to burn it, bump the athlon x2 3800+ (the processor xmasterx suggested) up to an athlon x2 4200+

www.newegg.com I could build a computer that cost a lot more than your budget, but you have a budget so I can't.

nVidia came out witht heir answer to those a month ago, they are based on the 90nm process, they are smaller, runn cooler on elss energy and outperform them. They are priced similarly.

also, water, the only time when it is wise to get parts from Fry's is when they are on sale, 50% of the time you are getting ripped off, horibly might I add.

given your budget, I'd suggest something like this:

x2 4200+ or opteron 170(170 OCs very well expect to get it to 2.6-2.8ghz)
    2GB DDR500 sd RAM
    7900GT
    DFI-Ultra D mothebroard
    600W PSU
