guys lol im rlly confused right now, on newegg i search for motherboards and for each one it usually has like 3 different cpus that it supports, athlon FX, athlon 64, athlon X2.... etc etc.... but i see none with opteron supported.... im not saying im gonna get the opteron but even thought it says athlon FX/athlon 64/sempron can i still use an X2?? or a sempron....because i will have a hell of a lot more options if i can get a motherboard (athlon FX/athlon 64/ sempron) and then wind up with the X2 3800 i was thinking of getting....

so my main question is, will any AMD 939 socket chips work on a 939 socket board even if it says it doesnt on newegg lol......

yeah pretty much all 939 boards will take all 939 chips. The only incompatibility I ever saw was issues with 3700+'s.
Most boards dont officially support opertons, eg. DFI but they will still work.

yes. If you want the best overclocking. Get the DFI LanParty Ultra-D, it is my forshizzle.

the s939 opterons are the exact same thing as the s939 Athlon 64s, the only diference is that they passed harsher tests for quality, the net result is that the either OC better or can run on lower volts at stock

straight from the horses mouth(there's debate, but it's all been defused to merely being in reference to the s940 opterons)
