Ok, my computer is getting funky... before I used to be able to play most games, on low settings, but now my CPU is f u c k i n g up on me.... whenever I start a game, my computer likes to restart... even if i put it on the lowest settings... first i thought it was my screen resolution, being at 1280x1024, changed it to a lower setting, no diff... I need a new Mobo and CPU for around $200-250. (939 and maybe a 3500-3700, please) I need an AGP board, not PCI-e. I'll swap everything from this computer. newegg preferred... edit: on the site where you test if you can play the game, my AMD Athlon XP 3000 just barely passed, everything else passed with full bars or one less than all... i just need a more powerful cpu, everything else is set... edit2: stpl suggested these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813135216 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819103539
I would get this mobo instead: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813128307 but its basically between that one^ and what stpl said
I would do neither, and look in the newspaper for a local fry's electronics add. a few months ago I saw a 3500+ with an ECS mobo for 200$ bit back I saw it with a 3700+ and mostlikely the same motehrboard for 220$ if you're on a tight budget then it's most likely that, and an AXP 3000+ shouldn't be the limit, there are people playing HL2 lost cost with 2.4ghz northwood P4s.
Get an ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 so you can upgrade to pci-e later as it has both pci-e and agp. Get a 3200+ and overclock it 10% to be a 3500+.
We need prices!! PS. Master, what game is it? 'Cause if it's CS 1.6 I think the game is screwed up, they don't allow a lot of GOOD computers play 1.6 and I've seen this problem posted on a lot of other forums. Just wondering 'cause I may complain to valve to see whatsup..
it's on an online game called Gunbound. I can play it on my grampas computer that is slower than this... i used to be able to play it on here too until i updated my computer..... I'm using ASRock right now, a socket A board, and it's ok, not the best ive seen, but 939 is a new architecture, so maybe they cleaned up their act... edit: great, they have a refurbished one... save a few bucks... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...82E16813157081R btw, i do not like to overclock if i can help it... edit2: i want to at least go up to a 3500, which core is better, venice or clawhammer?
venice is better performance wise, though it has a flaw which will take you to DDR333 if you try to put 2 x(2*1gb) DDR400 in dual channel. venice has about a 10% per clock performance increase, MORE than a degrade in ram clock speed would affect it if you somehow decided to put that much ram in.
I have 1gb (2 x 512 dual) although it is not really 'dual' on this Socket A computer. I dont think i need to go to 2gb for awhile...
