Overview Jak 3 is the latest and last installment of Naughtydog's long running Jak and Daxter series. This is a bitter sweet end for one of the greatest game trilogy's of all time. If anyone doesen't remember how a trilogy story should end, well, then Jak 3 will surely remind you of how a story SHOULD end. Jak is back with all his old moves and a ton of new badass guns and he is more pissed than ever! And then there is his comical relief sidekick Daxter. Now for the first time you will find out who the precursors really were and you will re-encounter all the characters from previous games. Presentation The menus in and out of the game make it easy to switch from one thing to another and jump right back in where you left off. And did I mention another thing? No load times whatsoever! Yeah, that's right you read it, none! Playing the game is like nothing you will experience before in terms of how the story unfolds. To really follow the story you will have needed to have played the previous games. The cut scenes are very appropriate for when they happen, and are often hilarous and some are creepy. The compelling story builds up emotion in you for certain characters and makes you want to keep playing to see "what will happen to Jak next?" The story throws twists and a very satisfying ending to a great series. Sound The sound here is really top notch. When you're out in the desert at the middle of the night, you're really out in the damn desert at the middle of the night! The music fits perfectely with the many environments you explore. Being in an ancient precursor ruin, really DOES feel very creepy and ancient. The sound creates a feeling that you won't notice but it works to really make feel that you ARE there. The voice acting is professional, nothing more I can say about that. To see you will really have to play the game yourself. Gameplay Jak 3's gameplay is superb. Naughtydog has tightened the controls and the camera rotation works very, very well. There is still the same Grand Theft Auto free roam and side mission stuff they incorporated into Jak 2. You can jack civilians hovercars and piss off the gaurds like in GTA. But in Jak 3 you get back to back action so quickly and it's so fun. Something that wasn't in Jak 2. Jak 3 is hard, but not like, "God ******** dammit," I quit hard. The game has a lot of emphasis on shooting, but with the new guns it's as fun as ever. The guns are also easy to aim, with a very responsive auto-aim type laser. And the gun mods! And I did I mention the new veichles? Oh my god, driving the veichles in the desert, holy ----! Dune Hopper! And so many veichles! Need I say more? The hoverboard is still there. Another thing is the sheer number of gameplay types the game offers, from hoverboarding to, well just about anything you can imagine. The gameplay is what makes the game as good as it is, partly. Graphics Jak 3's graphics are of staggering proportions and shoulden't be missed by anyone. "The graphics are better than 95% of all XBOX games on a system that shoulden't be capable of producing graphics this good." (IGN) The environments are lush and full of life animation and color. Going from one environment to another is so seamless. It takes a while to realize you just switched to another place. And when you do realize you are almost forced to just stop and look around. The explosions and particles just look so real and just plain "right." The frame-rate runs at a basically perfect 60 FPS and never slows down even in the most harsh environments. The characters animate so smoothly and everything just looks fantastic. There are many polygons now, look back to the first game and maybe even the 2nd to see what I mean. The physics are amazing. Naughtydog was known to create the best graphical games on the PS and boy have they here on the PS2, ever since the Precursor Legacy. Replay Value Jak 3 offers about a 15-25 hour single player game depending on your skill and if you want to collect orbs and metalhead gems and do side missions and all that stuff or just rip through it. You can always go back and do the secrets which adds about 5-10 more hours of gameplay. But the game is also so fun to just replay over and over. I would say it's a good 30+ hour game. But don't let the replay value detract from the overall brilliance of this game. Final Thoughts Combined with great soundtrack, superb gameplay, stunning graphics, and the hilarous humored Daxter cut scenes and a strange ancient cinematic feeling Jak 3 really sets the standard of what a video game should be modeled after. Scores Out of 10 Presentation - 9.2/10 Sound - 9/10 Gameplay - 9.5/10 Graphics - 10/10 Replay Value - 8.2/10 Final Score 9.5/10(Not an average) "Jak 3 is a game that all games should be modeled after.
