Ok guys ive tried to help a friend of mine out but everything we have tried isnt working, he doesnt really want reinstall anything if its not neccesary.

ok, he cant get into his restore dates, he cant open anything or burn his backups to a disk, for example:

When he goes to search files and folders, its blank, he said theres only the dog there, he also said its the same when he tries to restore.

    Any suggestions?

Maybe, he thinks he may have a virus from something he downloaded not so long ago, but he wants to try not to reinstall if possible, so i was thinking maybe one of you guys may have an answer :)

try and get knoppix, a cd-bootable linux OS (operating system)

there is no installation, runs straight off the cd.

Knoppix can look into your hard drives, and you can pull data off it, and you can burn cd's with it.

so get Knoppix, if it can see the files on the hdd, burn them to a cd, and reformat the hdd.

if it cannot read the hdd, it probably is bad, or has a unrecoverable virus in it...

^kirbir says s/he can't get into system restore, that was a waste of your breath...

kirbir, try my suggestion, you've got nothing to loose, if it's unrecoverable, then you have no choice..
