I have 2 computers in my bedroom, wired to my router, a Netgear. So when I first setted up my second computer, my first one could read/write off the second, but not vice versa. so now, neither computer can see each other.

they are the same OS, Windows XP Pro SP2, but one I upgraded to SP2, one had SP2 on the XP disc.

I have them on the same workgroup, tho they cannot read each others, get errors that say i do not have the rights or something to view it...

    help appreciated...

edit: oh, and they can both get on the network, too...

You need to tell each comp what files they can share.

Right click on a folder and set sharing to share this folder.

thats not the problem doca. by default, 'My Shared Folder' is shared over the network. ill try screwing with this problem soon X, i have this problem between my dad's laptop. I can see him on my network, but i cant connect to his computer (even if i direct connect them with an ethernet cord.) then when i try to look at the 'workgroup computers' on the laptop, it says i dont have access to that. really annoying ^^

...xp's arent good at all for networking...i pretty much have the same problem as you...i have one computer that is accessable to every other computer on my network...but all those other computers arent accessible...my dad's computer friend came over and he got a little bit of accessibility by going to run \\ip address of the computer you're wanting to connect to... that doesnt work for all my computers though...

I get the same error when I try to access administration files. I'm not sure why.

If someone post a fix, I'll be really interested to hear.
