Alright, so I went to church on sunday, and my minister told me...

In the bible it states heaven and hell are blocked by a huge canyon, such as the grand canyon but much larger, and impossible to cross. It says that people in heaven feel so bad for those in Hell, they want to be able to help them.

But before he states in the first testament, it says that Heaven is painless, pain free, and free of sorrow.

So my question is... how can Heaven be free of sorrow and pain when people feel sorry for those in Hell?

Probably it is free of sorrow and pain to the person physically and mentally, but not the pain they feel in their heart? But heck... you might as well ask your minister, I ain't even a christian myself... lol.

First off I have a good understanding of theology and never once did they describe heaven and hell like that... in actuality the Bible rarely ever goes to describe Heaven/Hell.

Also, little lesson about Hell, don't believe those people who go and say "Oh Hell is for those people who sinned, no matter what extent" You go to Hell willing, and you make that choice when you say that you want to break your relationship with God (I'm only talking about Christians, not those who have different religions BTW) If someone is in Hell they understand that they are in Hell and they choose to be there... hope that sorta answers your question

Well, it depends upon the perspective of which you look at it. There is the philosophical/scientific way that everyone claims is the "Agnostic view", while others see it in the view that they grew up with or believe (aka the "Religious view"). According to religion, the beginning of time, the end of time, the miracles, and the sufferings are all an essance of God. For that comes Judgement, which is why there is a Heaven and Hell, reward and punishment basically.

Now, for the more theoretical view of it, there is possible some mental control there. The concept of Heaven and Hell is the same concept of a parent and grades; If the child does good, he is rewarded with money or something of value, while if he starts to fall behind or inflict a negative effect (IE: breaking school rules, not doing homework, etc.), then the threat of a being grounded is imployed, thus SCARING him into working towards the betterment of the parents.

Personally, this theory has made me doubt religions involving some form of eternal divine punishment. Although I am proudly Jewish (by heritance), I am Humanistically Jewish; I feel that if there is a God (or Adonai as we call Him), he would punish us as we are alive in order for use to learn, not to threaten and scare us. Heaven and Hell can be no more than a blatant, empty threat that has been used by the Church for hundreds of years, something that clearly doesnt work with all the crime in the world.

All religions contradict themselves 100's of times over. Just live with the fact that what you believe in is fake.

Well, you can use magic crystal globe and see people burn in hell. So yea. And then you can say "I told you guys so. Why didn't you convert?"

That's what I'll do. But I would like to state that I am NOT Christian.

Judaism, is actually a religion that rarely contradicts itself.

And, I don't think that heaven or hell is EVER described as being blocked by a Canyon... I have read the bible (I am Jewish, but have a hardcore Christian mother), and it rarely talks about hell until Revelations. You won't find many accurate descriptions of religions, and absolutly NO religion is set in stone. If it can be interpreted, than that is what makes it a religion.

hmm... I'm a hard-core, fundamentalist Christian here, so I bet I'm either gonna get flamed or everyone's gonna think I'm a freak... Whatteva, like I care about ppl's opinions about me...

Sorryness and sorrow are too completely different things. Say you had the perfect life, but pretty much everyone else had a life that was a living Hell? You'd be sorry for them, right?

From my meagre and human understanding of the Scriptures, even God is sad when a person goes to Hell. It's not like you can go to Hell, see if you like it and then say "You know what God? It really sucks down here, can you please let me into heaven?" It doesn't work that way, no matter what the teachers of other religions may say. You have an entire life to make the choice of either heaven or hell, and that choice is Christ.

Want proof? Here's some: John 3:16-17 "(16) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (17) For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him."

I'm not trying to impose myself on you guys, but this is my opinion, grounded on the Holy Bible.

Yea, that day will be when Jesus comes down to us all so I can see him.

I am agnostic. Thats how it is. I do not Hate upon other religions, nor do I hate upon God. I do not approve of things in some religions. Some stories are ludacris and all. But hey, you can never be too secure with goin to heaven/hell. I just dont want to waste time in my life, tryin to get in heaven when there may very well not be one :D
