Ok step back and slow down.

there is no difference between 4x and 8x agp. Ask around the net, it makes no difference.

There is no point in 4gb ram especially with a 2.4ghz p4.
Your pc cannot run your DD2 ram so it would be best to return it.

I know that 4x and 8x have a very, very tiny margin in transfer rates. OK, so what I'm doing is installing a new motherboard in my P4 2.4 GHz (and a new PSU), with that I can use 4GB of RAM I already have. Then when I save up enough money I'm getting a new mobo, cpu and DDR2 RAM (all compatable). I hope that makes it a little clearer.

You mean alienware? I'm not getting one of those (unless I win the lottery). They're overpriced in my opinion and you're just paying for a brand name.

Yeh, it's overpriced. I built my friend a system for £700 that was better than the one he was going to get from alienware for £1000.

They are one of the most overpriced brands^

I believe Voodoo is another overpriced brand.

btw, the AGP gfx cards are 2x/4x or 4x/8x. 4x and 8x are the same thing...get it?

You mean 1x/2x and 4x/8x. According to wikipedia 4x has a bandwidth of 1GB/s and 8x has a bandwidth of 2GB/s (showed you :P). Also 1x and 2x use higher voltages.

there is NO point in a new motherboard. Its just a waste of money, especially using 4gb of ram. DOnt get that motherboard, get a new one for your new future upgrade. And DO NOT BUY DDR2 ram for a current amd machine, It will NOT FIT/WORK!

OK, so I'll ask my mum for £200 and save it for a new machine.
