I recon that the under 4 letter search thing should be removes as some people may want to search for 28 days later and not be able to because of the 28 and then they search for days later and get a lot of threads that aint what they are looking for or they may search for a Ong bak render like i did and they cannot cos the both words are below 4 so they have to manually go through all 30 odd pages to find it

Well without the bad grammar, I agree. Say I want to search for Day of Defeat renders in the render section I cannot because Day and Of are 3 letters or under. Then you have to manually look through threads for the renders. The only way you could not have to do that is to search for different terms but the 30 second search rule takes out that option because it would take too long.

The reason this is so is because the way that ipb searches. I'm assuming its using fulltext searches. These are done with the mysql database and these are the limitation's on them
    • Strings (what you're searching for) are broken down into their individual keywords (ie. when you search Day of Defeat it searches for Day of Defeat separatly
    • Keywords that are less than 4 characters long are ignored
    • Very popular words, called stopwords, are ignored
    • If more than 50% of the records match the keywords than no records are returned
    From my MySQL book

These are limitations the actual database is placing on the searching, not something that is set. In other words, it can't be changed.

To the right of the search menu under Search Options > Refine Search there is a place where you can select 'Search posts from...' and then choose the time frame.

Heh, sorry don't know how to help you there. You would have to look through each page. I just tried searching myself and i didn't come up with anything that would work.

Here's what I do- go to Google, and put in "site:http://www.gamerenders.com/forum <search term here>" (Without quotes)
This way, it searches the Gamerenders forum for whatever search terms you put in.

Swat, would it be possible to search for Day of Defeat as a whole instead of each term seperately. Such as on google you can use the parenthesis around your search term.

Although it would be useful, there is no way of having searches with under 4 characters for the reasons that SwAT suggests. Sorry.
