Ok I just got a new computer 5 days ago, and we ran out of ethernet plugs on my modem, so I made all my computers wireless. At first I was using some1 else inter net, then when I fond out I turned the wireless on my modem. Everything was fine for 2 days, then 1 day its telling me theres a new network, and its sending and receiving a link. and at first I did not care but then I started seeing stuff like my firewalls where shut off and so on. So I looked in my norton and found this in my personal firewall: I dont want to block it because what happens if its my internet.... And I get this pop up every time I go to a page with password inputs: And then the other day I tryed turning off my computer and it woulds not let me.... when I disable his network in network connections it tells me that it is busy..... And my dad will not encrypt the wireless modem, he tells me theres built in firewalls but I told him yes if you turn on the encryption...... Can some1 help me and tell me what I should do?
First of all uncheck the box "alert me whenever I submit information that's not encrypted". secondly, use 128-bit WEP encryption at the least. Lastly, get rid of Norton.
I have a question, I have read alot about norton I have seen people tell me it sucks and I have seen people say its the best, and I have seen people say the its good and if you download avg free it will fill in what norton does not kill.... So if not norton what should I be using?
I prefer the ZoneAlarm Security Suite...but if you must use Norton, use the ISS (Internet Security Suite).
That message is a standard security warning, dont need to worry. The network only needs encryption if you have valuable data being shared between network computers, and theres people around who could intercept it. Firewall is different from encryption though. Firewalling doesnt take the place of encryption. Firewall is mainly blocking connections from the internet, while encryption is taking the info being sent wirelessly and protecting it from being intercepted. Second thing. I hate norton from personal experience. I used to like it, but after an upgrade, it sucked, and badly degraded the performance of my computer. I use avast on this computer and am quite happy with it. My preference, go with avast, and its free to avast.com
I go Avast as well, alough i do not have it on this computer yet... (Just reformatted ) not a resource hog, small virus updates, more recent updates, automatic updates, boot scan, background scan that works when you are idle, and a hell lot more, its better than norton by far..
