    You dont get a windows disc with these pcs. Thats why they have these discs with them, there is no point in buying a new copy of windows because compaq installs 3 extra programs you can just uninstall.

    You do not need a back up disk
    Solution: Make cds or put all programs and data onto a storage drive and reformat your computer. After reinstall all of the programs and configure your pc like it was with the programs. Explain it to your mother that she will not lose her programs and data.
    (I am a pro at this cause I reformatted my comp 6 times last year due to problems and WINrot.
    WINrot, the problem the windows os has where it starts to slow down over time, factory computer have WINrot happen a lot faster.)
    P.S. DO NOT EVER SPRAY PAINT YOUR COMPUTER.
    Solution: Cut black electrical tape into the shape of the led light on the computer. This way you can remove it and it will not make a mess.

    i have and a compaq presiro 2 and no u do not need a backup disk u should have 2 drives in my computer
    1 - PRESARIO (Main Drive)
    2 - PRESARIO_RP (Backup Drive)

    if u have the disk's from when u frist brought it then use those so u can refresh those olded files on the backup (incase of virus etc.)

    but go ahead and do it what some one dont know dont hurt them :)

    Yeah your real pro. The compaqs come with either a restore disc or partition. So STOP TALKING.

    cycan you are right, there may be a restore partition but some come with just a disc.

    Just do it while she is away for a while, then leave it and see if she even notices.

    ++ I second that.

    I think you should do it while your mom is out and tell her the stuff like AVG didn't install any virus's and then tell her she can check for herself, use FireFox, IE sucks. Get a recovery CD and make sure you computer it scanned at least TWICE a month, or once if you want. :wub: Hope I helped!

    I had this problem with my mum. I just let her go on with the computer until it got so bad I couldn't get to the desktop. So I reformatted sucessfully and now she just lets me get on with things.
