ok well i made a deal with my step dads dad to make him a computer if he gives me 500 dollars to build it..

i just need best parts from newegg.com to make it...

computer will be for office use so it needs to hold alot of documents/memory without losing alot of performance

    limit is 500-550 dollars

just need a good cheap case for it

office use and no gaming at all whatsoever right?

I'll probably get called out for this, but:

    Pentium D 2.66ghz 140$
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819116001

    Ram 2GB(2*1GB) DDR2- 666 160$
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16820145098

    motherboard 102$
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16813131545

    HDD 250GB, 16mb cache 100$
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16822144701

    case/PSU 55$
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16811147001

    DVD burner 38$
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16827152059

it's a little over, but 2GB of ram. for general office use, you can't beat that. Gaming on the other hand:no. that comp is NOT for gaming at all. you try playing FEAR and you will be sadly disapointed. you can cut 40 bucks off the price by ditching the burner though.

wow, this is like a once-in-a-life-time moment.... xelink suggested a pentium D :gasp:

you may find a little trouble with xelinks build, im not sure if it matters, but the motherboard is 24 pin main-connector and the psu is 20. cant remember if it would work anyway, you can check tho.

    agreed^ XD

yea, I like xelinks build. I first thought, 2gbs? Thats pointless..but hey, you dont need to buy a vid card really cuz its no gaming. Only thing I would see is getting only 1gb of Ram and up the proc a bit. But thats pretty nice anyway...although I'd never go back to Intel, theyre decent for low-budgets at least.

should work, I'm running a 20pin PSU plug on a motherboard with 24 pins and everythigng seem to work fine, I'm not even using an adapter. Never had problems with anything. If you want to feal safe, I'm sure you could toss the extra few dollars at a 2 dollar converter...

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16812101121

as I've said, I'm not a huge intel fan and I don't think their dual core procs are all to great, but 140 bucks for a low end dual core chiP?

just googled it, a conveter is only neccessary when using older PSUs to a new ATX2 motherboard.. My guess is that it is made to help acomadate the increasing voltages running through motherboards as to prevent them from being overly concntrated.

most of everything we recopmended is fine. if you chose an ATX2 motherboard just tossin the extra few bucks and get an adapter for peace of mind.
