Your 'mom' took care of you in her womb for 9 months, show some respect.
And to answer your question, no.

the AVs would rather save your computer from harm before it will harm it..

try to teach your mom about the different stuff, what it does, and give her a source on the internet that confirms it is safe to do.

I have the same kind of problem with my mom, but with electricity. I cant leave my pc on when i am away from it... and shes always turning off my stuff, like the little light on the monitor, speaker, etc. I just say i am downloading something, or defragging my hdd.. can't wait to get out of here..

here is a simple idea...turn off the screen when away and spray pain black over any comp lights so they won't know.

as for needing a backup disc, no you don't need to backup anything, though you WILL want a windows disc or a recovery partition.

Seriously just set a password on the bios so your mom can't get on the computer.

Passworkd thing isn't too shabby... I had a mobo with a feature that never prompted you to enter the pass, but in order to use the keyboard/mouse you had to type it in just blank.

you, my friend, know nothing though

set it so you can't boot from your HDD on the computer and tell her it's because she f'ed it up and it NEEDS to be reformatted.

What mom doesn't 'know' everything? I hear yah knockin man...

Obviously not, but I'd keep a recovery partition around, just incase things go wrong. Like other people said, explain to her what things do instead of babbling about things. It's like japanese to them, and to you japanese people, it's like speaking german to them. I'd know, I use to be that way >.>

you are wrong. twizted. Your mum is right, your pc should have come with a disc which you need to put in to reset to factory standards.

My mom also doesn't like when my PC is on while I'm not on it. I just tell her it's busy downloading something and then she just leaves it on. However when downloading a pr0n dvd, I just tell her im scanning my PC.

Just make sure you use FireFox, an anti-virus of your choiche, and a spyware of your choiche. Also tell her where you download from (save source etc) Make sure you got a recovery cd, and scan your pc fully once a month.

About the backup. I place my important files mostly on my second HDD, so if I ---- up my pc, I can just format my first drive and install windows again and I still have my important files.

Yea but thats the stupid way of doing it. When you do that you get all of the bloatware and crap you dont need. The best way to do things is to start fresh by reformating.

Make sure you have the original disk tho...you HAVE to use the original disk (not any other one)
