I personally get tired of hearing my teachers' opinions in school, their political opinions in particular. I'm a republican, one of the few in my school, and my history teacher bashes Bush every chance he gets, for example, the other day when Chenney shot that guy on accident, he made a comment similar to; "I wish Bush had been with Chenney instead...", this was offensive to me, and I don't feel that it belongs in the classroom.

My question to the wonderful GR community; should this be tolerated by the school board? Should it be morally correct for teachers to impose their opinions on their students? Personally, I say no, but when I stood up and walked out of the classroom the day he made the shooting comment, I was suspended for 3 days, for no real reason.

Flaming of any kind will not be tolerated in this thread, if you plan on flaming, leave now.

Actually, the teachers at my school keep their opinions to themselves. Except for this one teacher (thankfully I don't have). I've heard that she's a sexist teacher that favors women and democrats.

There is also a large majority of democrats at the school, with myself being a conservative.

Small comments like that shouldn't matter at all. People have their opinions and part of that is being able to respect those opinions even if you don't agree with them. To me, you walking out of the class over that small remark, which could be considered funny rather than "completely offensive", is ignorant and completely uncalled for.

Having a teacher with an opinion is good. Would you rather have a teacher with the personality of a brick than a teacher who you might be able to carry a conversation with? Their comments will only offend you if you let them, and really something as stupid as that one comment isn't worth getting in a huff over. It's terrible that America's become so sensative over comments like that, don't help the cause.

ACtually, i'd rather have a teacher with an opinion. it shows you that they are human. Now if they are opposing to your views, what difference does it make? Let him make the remarks, it doesn't affect you unless you make it.

And if he did say "I wish" the keyword is I, he's not forcing his views upon you, just making a perfectly legit statement, just as you are by posting this.

If your current president was a democrat instead of a republican, and your teacher made a comment, you would probably laugh and make more jokes. You don't care if they have an opinion, you care if they an opinion that you don't agree with.

Personally, I don't care if they express their opinion, as long as they don't try to convince his/her/it's students to thinkt he same.

Actually, persuasion isn't so bad either. But I believe that the teacher should focus on the subject that is their job, and not about their beliefs during school hours.

Yeah, opinion is good. But being in a school, guessing public, I'm guessing over 90% are Democrats so you get that view. Just a thought.

    How old are you?
cos you made your self look like a 3 year old, you were told something you didnt like so you stormed out the room?

Politics is all about debating, you should have debated his reasons for pushing his point across, hes not going to think that your arguement matters if you storm out, and it doesnt get your point across sadly, you should have confronted him with a debate.

also Teaches are not supposed to forward there views, as this warps the person of deciding them selves, the teacher is supposed to be a nutral mediator.

Excuse me? When I get offensive comments like that coming from him everyday I'm not just going to sit there and listen to it, he doesn't see me standing up in class making rude comments everyday, why should I have to put up with his? I have a short temper, thanks to my Irish heritage, which might help explain the leaving the room, whereas if I had stayed I could have easily have yelled, which would be more immature? Exactly.

Or you could havge talked to your teacher or principal like an adult.

Really you shouldn't care. Wouldn't it be helpful to get different views? I don't know, maybe broden your horizon? This is gonna happene all though out your life. Just suck it up man.

IMO what you did was childish and immature.

Plus, how old are you, unless your 18 I don't think political views should even bother you.

no it shall not be tolerated!

teachers got the rights to have thier own opinions but they shall teach school stuff. They shall not teach students what they think is right!

    Of course not.
You should talk to him, or to the supervisors or principals.

He does not have the right to impose you to do something you are against.
    u_U'
But for you just step up of the room was not really cool, though.
