Tables are outdated, and are relatively inaccessible.

csszengarden presents perfect examples of how css makes tables obsolete, and at the same time provides more accessible HTML code for text-based browsers and readers.

Accessiblity and standards compliance are huge points if you ever want to get a job in web design for a university, institution, or the government. Since it's basically illegal if you make a non-accessible web site.

They have resouce links if you want reading material.

People make table websites because they either :

    a) Are lazy
    B) its the quickest way to convert your Template into a Site
    c) Genuinely don't understand why tables are bad

What do you use tables for in real life? Let me help you... storing tabular data? You dont make a table for any other purpose other to store some kind of data and the same is true or atleast should be with webdesign.

CSS is for style, CSS does not add any content, it is for the pure pose of changing how your content looks.

HTML is to present your content but shoudl not in any way affect how it looks, so don't touch tags like , <font> they are all junk and shouldnt be otouched.

CSS changes how your HTML content looks.

    Javascript alters the behaviour

PHP is a scripting language to add dynamics, same as ASP and CF,

Anyone hope this short explanation helps a bit. Its just dont mix them, so no HTML to change how your code looks etc.
