socket, please (A, 754, 939, etc). and what is the max your mobo can hold?

Also, 1.8 is pretty fast, might be low ram, spyware/adware/viruses, etc. I doubt its your cpu...

Get an AMD 3700+ deffenetly, it costs $212, but the $12 extra isnt a big deal considering that the 3700+ is a great processor. If you havent got the money... save up... it really is worth it.

here's an idea, since you think your CPU is cra just OC the diference and save the 200$ because anything not dual core will be/is obsolete.

a 1.8 Ghz athlon is by no means bad.

now if you mean an Athlon 18000+ that's a diferent story.

Also, you would need a new motehboard if that is the case.

yeah good point on the 'anything not dual-core will be obsolete'. if you get desprate for a dual-core, like i was/am, i got the pentium d 820. obviously not the best dual core, but it is a dual core and was $100 cheaper then the +3800 athlon x2 (when i bought it.) the 820 goes for around $240ish; so ya, if you can save up around $40 bucks, you can get a dual core.

Meh, shoot me in the face, just checking pentium d's right now, they dropped in price majorly. the 820 is now $220. but since you would be needing a new motherboard, the pentium d 805 comes more into play here. being only 2.66 Ghz, the price is $140, which could still leave you with a chunk of change that is worthy of a new motherboard. but meh, dont gotta take this advice, i can tell you like AMD's a lot better, i personally havent found them that exhilerating to care about spending $80-$100 more to get the model i want (comparing my old 1.8 Ghz p4 and my brothers like 2.2 athlon xp). please dont reply to w/e im saying, just my personal opinion (getting off topic too, srry ;))

    My recommendations:

    Get 1 GB of ram
Save the change a bit, and get a new motherboard, ASUS is my fav.
Get an AMD Athlon X2 3800+ and overl---- it 10%.

Prolly more than you want to spend, but if you dont spend it all, you'll end up havign too sooner or later...

you can get an X2 3800+ for as low as 280 now so you must consider how thre is no longer any comparison.
