Why Do Girls Wear Thongs?

Im not saying that I don't like girls who wear thongs, im just asking, Why the hell do they wear them? They look like they are mega uncomfortable. If I can get a wedgie in my boxers that feels like im sitting on a knife, then it must be 10 times worse for them.
