They are definatly emo, unless saying "cut my wrists and black my eyes" is suddenly normal. I don't like emo people, and I say it to their faces.

Dude, seriously. it isnt cool to hate emos, they virtually created themselves on the desire to be hated by most of America and anywhere else world wide they they present (Europe especially).

Think about this. They truly go out of their way to be everything the US society has painted as wrong or bad (keep in mind the following is a general stereotype as its all you can say in a small post). Most of them are gay/bi, most of them depict themselves as being as sad as possible, most of them have HORRIBLE taste in music (listen to bands most people hate like Green Day, etc.), they attempt to self-mutilate (i have seen multiple emos cut, they hate every second of it, they dont get the rush your supposed to when you cut, I used to be a masochist, I know the feeling of sensation from pain), they purposefully look at the bad things in their life to make their own life appear worse than yours, and the list goes on.

Its not our fault people hate them in the US, its their fault for trying to be hated. Its like gays, if they didnt have all these protests and gay rights festivals they wouldnt draw attention to themselves. Seriously, straight guys would be just as much prosecuted if they randomly said, "OMFG BOOBIES ARE MY LIFE" running down the street (which is practically what gays are doing with their gay pride). Gays go out of their way to be noticed for their sexuality now (its not like a secret anymore, if your gay your PROUD!), and that draws massive attention. Its like an annoying kid on messenger, you continue to tell him to STFU and he keeps on talking, so eventually you say something worse than STFU or simply turn away from him period.

I personally have nothing against gays (i was in the GSA at school and fully support gays/bis) but that is my opinion. If your all mad that your a prime target of being harrassed, stop screaming your gay and you have pride everywhere. Honestly id as quickly just the straight guy I said above as I would a gay guy/girl for screaming "I LIKE <insert sexual body part varying on the sex of the person".

Anywho, long story short, emos are trying to be hated, let them be, let them be hated since thats what they are trying to do, after all it makes their life harder, so any true emo should appreciate it.

^ emo is something that is a very mixed up scene, the ideals behing the modern emo's are wrong, And it started off with bands like Fugazi/

Are you joking lol, if it wernt for those protests there wouldnt be gay rights and gay people would have to live lives that arnt real and would still be beaten up.

its not about being gay lol

No there not trying to be hated there trying to be the minority which is not the truth but in doing so they get hated as the most conformist group.

(im not emo im just pointing out that its a very mixed up genre which has been warped by MTV and other music channels.

    Yes, prove my point.
You base ALL emos on the emos you know.
    Dont be so stereotypical

To me, if someone listens to emo music, that doesn't mean that they are emo. But if they act like one, they are considered emo to me. I don't listen to emo music, but I don't hate it.

People these days think everything is emo.

But really, look at country music. Thats all about how the guys lose their girlfriend, run away in their old Ford truck, and go fishing. Thats emo too, right?

^This guy is right. It's just like some of the "ghetto" hip-hop people who speak so terribly you can't understand what they are saying. They go out of their way to make themselves look like criminals, then when they can't get a job they go insane. Emo people go out of their way to look stupid. I can't imagine if a guy has testicles it would be very comfortable wearing girl pants, so what is the point of doing it? No, it doesn't make you cool or unique, since all emo people look the same. It just makes you look stupid.

    Your sig's very emo :|
And sorry, but not all emos are the same. So stop categorizing people over your limited knowledge on the subject.

    Thanks.

You cant talk about emos without stereotyping. I know emo kids who are popular kids, they are just overly emotional (hence "emo"), its in a matter of attitude.

You cant really speak about emos without stereotyping unless you both happen to know the person your talking about. Otherwise emos are like goths, punks, preps, jocks, stoners, skaters, bible pushers, etc. and you ahve to stereotype to talk about them even remotely. You cant say, "every emo i know is the stereotypical emo kid except for shawn, hes just emotional" as it doesnt fit the genre.

Everyone is unique, we know this, but tbh EVERYTIHNG is stereotyped. I know plenty of popular kids (traditionally known as preps, the kids who think they are better than you in everything) who are actually really cool kids to hang out with. The thing is, by mentioning even the word "emo" you are mentioning a stereotype, therefore you cant talk about it without stereotyping.

Technically speaking most people consider me goth. Does that mean I go have satanist rituals, speak in dark tongue, make blood sacrifices to satan/lucifer, etc.? No, that means that i fit into the stereotypical idea of a goth by base outer judgement. When you get to know me, im more of a rocker than a goth, i simply dress different from rockers and I dont do drugs (anymore).

Moral of the story, mentioning a genre IS stereotyping, therefore you cant get mad at us for stereotyping something that started stereotyped for the discussion.

Okay, let me make some things clear.

    1) VERY few people know what real emo music is. Of this thread, Jay-Tnuckvirp and myself seem to be the only ones who do (and I'm making that assumption on the fact that he mentioned Fugazi). Greenday, Simple Plan, Good Charlotte, etc. ARE NOT EMO. They are pop. Greenday is pop-punk.

    2) Emo as a "trend" was invented by Hot Topic and MTV. It has NOTHING to do with emo music. Most so-called emo kids wouldn't know a real emo band if it bit them in the ass.

    3) Real emo music is NOT the "Whaaaa my life sucks blah blah blah" people think it is. Jimmy Eat World is an emo band, FFS.
