1 gig ram is about standard these days...

    i doubt you'll need 3ghz... 2ghz, definately...

the price depends on the edition you get. I'm sure the 'home' edition will be like 150-200, the ultimate version, maybe 200-250...

i suggest getting one of the beta's before you get the actual version. gonna be a ----load of wasted money if you dont end up liking it.

1.5Ghz and up non-netburst(Athlon FX, Athlon X2, Core Duo, Athlon 64, Pentium M, Core Solo, Celeron M, Sempron 64, Sempron, Athlon XP, Athlon, PIII, Celeron 1.1,)
    2.5Ghz and up netburst...(PXE, PD, P4, Celeron D, etc.)

just my crude guestimate on it.

as for ram 1gig as a min 2-4 recomended, GFX card, something good, say Nvidia GeForce 7800+ or ATi Radeon X1800+ for full capacity and plan on getting a new card for Direct X X in time.

A lot of people have been saying that Halo 2 will only come out for Vista becuz they want money. That's partially it. XP and everything before it Runs on DOS. Vista does not. The people at mcrosoft probly jus don't wanna do extra work at change it to work with dos.

XP doesn't use dos, it uses CMD which is a DOS emulator. There is no influence of DOS on the actual system itself save for anything which might have come over from win 9x as coincidence.

You'd completely ditch the idea of upgrading your OS just because Halo 2 on PC is 'estimated' to require alot? Just as Vista is? That's kind of sad, a game is influencing you that much?

Just my opinion, don't die over it.

Meh, I have no intention of buying Halo 2 for PC, it sucked for Xbox, I'm sure it will for PC, although I will be upgrading to Vista :P

This is similar with the BF2 problem when EA with the help of nVidia decided to ditch support for the Geforce 4 series (on of the best Geforce series ever made I dare say). Look nVidia wants its Geforce 4 users to upgrade because they ant reaping the profits and the fact that the Geforce 4s can still run games a good frame rates :| (Im running a AGP 6800GS)
This situation is the same, Micorsoft wants people to upgrade to Vista because it needs to regain its development money. MS knows that XP will last a long time hell people are still using Win 98, most enterprises expect windows to last for 10 years before upgrading to the next version so you can see that XP still has alot of life left in it.
Though what Im sorta uneasy about with Vista is DRM, its always DRM this, DRM that and it just goes on and on. Its like the big corperations want to control there consumers, I just dont like the feeling of having a big wig peering into my computer and looking at my HD... ah well some brillient programmer will eventually crack the DRM anyways lol
Im happy because I have Halo 2 on my Xbox (which is hooked up to my computer) so I have nothing to complain about ^_^ (yes I know Halo 2 will look sexier on PC)
I have a feeling the community will probably develop an ad-hock port of Halo 2 from the Vista to XP platform.
BTW the 3D vista effect has already been dont by Sun Microsystems with there UNIX based OS I think ^_^ Im also guessing you'd need at least a 6800GT+ (or ATI equivatent) card to run Vista's fancy Aero GUI though there is an option to switch to the old rendering system.

No, I just dont want to spend the money on a new os that takes up too much of my resources.

By the time the games need Vista to run, I will have already bought more ram and i will be able to upgrade.
