Eric B. & Rakim - Teach the children Talks about war, crime, the government and the contrast between rich and poor. Nas - Revolutionary Warfare Focuses on war and the effects it causes Nas - One mic Powerfull song. Nas - New world Talks about the future and how the worlds becomming. Eric B and Rakim - Casualties of War VERY political song about war, i don't see no talk of sex or drugs here. O wait maybe all rap isn't like that. Nas - Ghetto Prisoners Talks about life in the ghetto and the hardships of poor people. Tupac - Keep ya head up Rappers hate women Canibus - Channel Zero Seems rap is more than drugs, sex and drive bys. Canibus - Horsemen 'The government assigned sentinals for Horsemen elimination Claimin we were mutants of artificial insemenation' Raps dumb Rakim - In The Ghetto Story telling through rap. Hell even some mainstream rappers talk about more important issues. Eminem - We as americans Kanye West - Jesus walks Talib kweli - Ghetto Snow Talib kweli - Beutiful Struggle Talib kweli - Africa Dream I could also list some tribe called quest, JMT, Mf Doom, common and others. There are hundreds of rappers that could be listed that rap about important issues. The thing is THEY DON'T MAKE IT TO MTV SO YOU NEVER SEE OR HEAR THEM 'Dumb' hip hop apeals to the majority and sells to them so that is what is known best.

I never said all rap is retarded, i said MOST rap is, and thats only accounting for mainstream as its all i will listen to as far as rap. Unlike rock/metal where i get into underground bands that no one really knows about, etc.

yes, rap is very fun indeed. shooting up clubs, ----ing hoes, selling drugs, fun ---- i might just do it for a birthday party. main stream = teh sux underground/oldschool (pac, krs, PE, nwa - even though most of nwas songs fit the rap stereotype i still loved their sound and beats) = teh tyet shzel as my homies in the bronx call it.

Great point, I've been listening to Jedi Mind for a while. Check Blackalicious, its pretty much the best lyrics you are going to find (in my opinion). I would describe it as lyrical poetry set to great beats.

Dont believe or follow things you see on TV, really its a matter of opinion, i hate rock/metal because its just depressing and boring, with rap you can take in the lyrics and stuff if you get me. Most mainstream rap does suck, i like stuff like tech n9ne, immortal technique, necro, that sort of stuff, stuff thats NOT mainstream. people see one thing on tv, and it puts them off it.
But screaming over a guitar is? That doesn't make much sense...it's also pretty hypocritical to say rap isn't smart, when you can't spell correctly or use proper grammar.
