I'll also need to know, are you running:

    Computer Associates Antivirus

Or have you run it in the past?

    Hmmm... Nevermind then.

    Listen carefully...

Go to C:\WINDOWS\system32\Drivers and cut the file. Paste it to another folder on your PC (anywhere should do).

Reboot your computer. (If it won't let you cut and paste it, for whatever reason, you'll have to do that in safe mode).

If the error then comes up again, say.

Not a stupid question at all - lots of people don't know.

But first, actually, going back on myself (sorry!), check C:\WINDOWS for the file UnVet32.exe. Is it there?

Well - I'll be gone by then. If it comes up again (which it shouldn't... *fingers crossed*) , post here and I'll help you again tomorrow. Or someone else can :P.

    Good luck.

That error is normally a hard drive error or RAM error. Take out your 256MB stick and see if it works.

if it's due to that oe file, try this:
    download replacer.exe http://www3.telus.net/_/replacer/
make a file with the same name in word pad and save it with quotes around it.
    swap the two.
    DONE.

As the problem is no longer very detailed, here's some blanket info.

This error is usually caused by an incompatible driver. Check your driver listings and see if any are malfunctioning. If (if you can remember) the error began to occur after adding some hardware, remove the hardware and uninstall the drivers.

Download SiSoft. Run it - if the problem occurs while it is running, remember what it was scanning at the time. Although the program isn't for finding faults, it may make the problem show up.

After doing that, report back with more info.
