OK, so I just had my little graduation party from college, finally completed my 2-year degree, but anyway, back on topic here...

I recieved ~$430, and would like to spend it on a new build.

I do not have enough to buy a lappy, but it should be enough to buy a computer that is faster than my current system:

    ASRock KS741
AMD Athlon XP 3000+ Barton Core
    512mb RAM
    FX 5500
    40gb HDD + 80gb HDD
    BenQ DVD-R/CD-R/RW

I can go slightly higher than $430, by 100 or so. I have some money saved up...

heres what i want, from newegg, please:

Motherboard: ASUS preferred, but i really want PCI-e (no sli), SATA, and maybe socket 939 if it isnt too expensive?

CPU: I want AMD 64, no dual core, please. around 3000 to 3400 should be ok... I'm what you would call a lite gamer, i just use alot of big software (ie: dreamweaver 8, PS CS2, Maya, etc...)

Memory: I would love to have 1gb, dual channel if the motherboard is capable. when running those big programs with 512mb, i tend to go down to the double digit numbers...

GFX: As I said for the mobo, I want PCI-e, so a Pci-e gfx card is in order.. 256mb should do well..

HDD: SATA one, please... around 200gb should do well for me.. if i have extra money, maybe an extra 75gb eide for storage and backup? if not, dont worry..

CD/DVD: I would like a DVD burner with dual layer. you can go cheap on this, no need for a $100 one.. Ive seen a few on newegg for ~30-40..

Case with/out PSU: I like black and blue cases myself, just want one that looks awesome and ventelates well. for PSU, whatever you think. .DeFuZioN should know that...

I might post up something later of what i think i should get.

are you serisouly gonna buy a whole computer for 430 dollars? I guess Im used to england where a 430 POUND computer would be extremely crap. But I guess computers in america are much...much cheaper.

top range for 290 pounds? I highly highly doubt youd be getting good parts for that ammount of cash. If your talking about the deals you see in the newspapers, they usually offer really crap proccessors and other parts. Any computer below 500 pounds is pretty bad, even though the specs may seem decent, the actual parts that go into them are cheap and bad.

But yea sorry to go off topic. But if you want a decent computer thall last you for a few years maybe you should invest a little more money.
