My computer is playing up and i was wondering if you could help me, i was looking through my BIOS and i noticed that my DVD/CD drive was put as secondary slave, does that have anything to do with me reformatting my computer? and if so can i change the DVD/CD drive to primary master in any way... :) :)

You put in a bootable disk, boot from disk, and follow instructions to reformat your drives.

You'll want to put your disk into the master drive.

If that CD/DVD drive on the slave is your only drive. Then you need to open up your computer and change the pins on the back of the drive to set it to master. You'll probably need the documentation of the drive to set the pins correctly.

Reformatting should only involve putting in your operating system install disk and then choosing the formatting option. Alternatively, you could try a Linux live CD such as Knoppix to format it but using the operating system install disc is a much easier option.
Changing the CD to the master drive is a good option as well.

you need to setup your cd drive as the primary boot otherwise it will read the hd first and boot into windows.

actually, from my experience, your cd/dvd drive just has to be on the secondary ide.. master or slave, it does not matter...

you do however have to go into bios, in the boot or pepherials (sp? i think) you must put your cd in the first or second boot order.

    usually it is:

    1. Floppy
    2. CD
    3. HDD

if you want to switch it to master, you must change the jumper on the back, near the eide cable pins. either look in the label on the cd/dvd, or sometimes it is written on the bottom, onto the board, near the pin settings...
